| Since we decided to convert the 180g to an 'SPS tank', we
also decided
that a Calcium Reactor was what the doctor ordered. Don had been
researching them and taking notes, and bookmarking the best DIY sites
for
almost a year. Our reactor is a combination of what we felt were
all the best designs - basically combining the best features of a
number
of different calcium reactors.
The basics of the design came from John J. Geisler's DIY Caclium Reactor plans . Many thanks to him for answering so many of our questions! The reactor is a dual-chambered, reverse-flow reactor. The reverse flow allows for more contact time with the reactor media, and also prevents 'channeling'. The reactor tubes are both 6" OD. and 18" tall. |
