PTSA Newsletter - October 2008

Fall is here and school is fully underway. Many students will be busy taking the PSAT, PLAN, ACT and SAT. Thank you to Heidi Ford and her committee for proctoring these important tests.

Open House was very well attended last month. Thanks to Mary Reed Kelly and Jane Mikelic who did a wonderful job organizing this event on behalf of the PTSA.  The newcomer’s reception held prior to Open House was very informative and a nice social gathering for those new to our district. We are excited to welcome 25 new families to our district! Thank you to Cathy McKenzie and Nancy McDonald and their committee for over seeing this portion of the evening.

Please mark your calendars for Thursday, November 6 for our anual Book Fair  which will be held at Barnes and Noble this year.   Nancy Wanty and her committee are working hard to organize entertainment from our High School Music and Stage groups to perform throughout the day. Other activities are in the planning stages with more information to follow.

Have you noticed how beautiful the grounds are around the High School? Libby Delong as put in countless hours of hard work and creativity to make this happen. A big thank you to Libby for her energy and enthusiasm that she has given to our Gardening Club.

D&W days will be October 12-18 and November 23-29.  Simply tell the D&W cashier that you would like the High School receive credit, We will 2 ½% of your purchase which will go towards our student benefits program. It is a great way to raise money without any cash out of your pocket.

Finally we would like to thank Betsy Bloom for orchestrating our online PTSA newsletter and getting important information out to our families. We really appreciate your expertise and time you spend on keeping us all connected!

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, October 14 at 9:15 am in the Media Center Conference Room. We will be hearing from our environmental club regarding our recycling programs and how our district hopes to increase our participation in “going green.”  We hope to see you all there!

DRAMA DEPARTMENT PRODUCTION ANNOUNCMENT

The Drama Department at East Grand Rapids High School will perform Agatha Christie’s “And Then There Were None” Saturday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 26 at 3 p.m. at the high school’s Little Auditorium. This is the school’s 5th annual all-student produced play. The show is directed by EGRHS senior, Dan Koch, with assistance from seniors Liz Kent and Ariel Frey.

“And Then There Were None” is based on Christie’s 1930’s best-selling crime thriller of the same title. Ten strangers of varying social classes and questionable moral character converge on the mansion of Mr. and Mrs. U.N. Owen, only to find their hosts are nowhere to be found. Bewildered, the guests nonetheless settle into the mansion, but their very presence triggers a string of menacing events and murders. Abandoned by the boat that brought them to the Soldier Island mansion, there’s no way for the guests to escape. Crippled with terror, they have no choice but to wait for their own fate to approach.
