A Monthly Schedule for Reading the Psalms

During the reformation of the English church, Archbishop Thomas Cranmer instituted a 30 day cycle of reciting the Psalms that is still printed in the Psalter of the Book of Common Prayer, with indications of Psalms appointed for Morning or Evening Prayer.  By following this schedule, one can read through all 150 Psalms on a monthly basis, thus repeating them twelve times a year.  If one continues this practice, after a while he should begin to become as familiar with the Psalms as he is with the hymns that he has sung all his life.  (In months shorter than thirty days, one can read extra Psalms on the last day or two of the month in order to complete the book.  Likewise, in months with 31 days, on the extra day one can pick and choose from favorite Psalms, before beginning the cycle anew on the first day of the next month.)
