In the Tarot
In the Tarot the suit of wands are used to depict the element of fire. The use of wands, an instrument that is often associated with magic, speaks to the magical aspects of this element. Fire was something that was precious to primitive man and while it may be taken for grantet today mankind would not be able to have come as far as it has without it. While life is dependent on all of the elements, fire is thought of as the one that not merely sustains mankind but pushes her forward.
The ace of wands (pictured here) would combine the numerological aspects of the number 1 with the elemental aspects of fire to designate the start of a new academic program or a passion.
The wands in the tarot are often shown with shoots of life growing out of them. This symbolizes the innovation of the wand and how it has benefited mankind.
Note: The tarot combines the aspects of numerlolgy with its four suits, which reflect the four elements, to foretell events in ones life. We do not have time to go into numerology in this site, so all examples given to explain the elements in the tarot will be done with the ace (or the number 1) card. In numerology the number 1 generally refers to new beginnings, originality, and independence.
