Bruce and Jean's
Teardrop Trailer Framing
10/18/04
12/1/04 Another view of the roof bows. I framed in a 14" opening for a fan. I
don't plan to put one in now but I can later if I change my
mind. (Update: I just found out that a 14" RV vent needs a
14-1/4" rough opening. Oops, mine is 14")
12/4/04 The ceiling is in. I used 1/8 " baltic birch plywood and it bent around
the curve with out a problem. Its great stuff; it cuts nicely and has
very few defects.
Now its starting to look like a real camper.
12/5/05 Insulation. I'm using foil backed foam since it has the
highest R value of the home center stuff. I'm using two layers with
foil facing in and foil facing out. I'm hoping it will keep it warm at
night and cool during the day.
The roof bows came out pretty strong.
12/19/04 The roof is on. I used 1/4" hardboard. Next I get to apply 4
coats of spar urethane to waterproof it.
Four coats later...
1/23/05 Next is the cabin cabinet. I'm using maple for the frames and birch plywood. This is
my first try at building a cabinet and I'm learning a lot. Pocket
screws are great and it really does matter what order you put things
together. The nice thing about pocket screws is you have a couple of
chances to put things together before you glue it all.
