The Resort: Scuba Club
Cozumel,
Cozumel, Mexico.
This was our 1st stay with the Scuba Club, and 2nd
visit to Cozumel. Our room facing the ocean was nice with a king bed.
They were just completing their new pier which was lost in hurricane
Wilma. They have a few boats with different sizes. Food was OK and
could be much better if they are served hot. They want you to tip in
cash and with names on the envelopes. So have plenty cash for them.
Wilma had damaged lots of land structures and trees.
But more changes came with cruise ships.
Focus of the trip: Drift
diving
Dive Sites: From Palancar to
Paradiso Reef in Cozumel.
Water Temperature: 81 F
(27 C)
The
sands covered coral reefs after the hurricane, but fish are back. We
saw lots of big angel fish, groupers, trigger fish, and schools of
grunts. This is our first time to see the eagle ray feeding, and we saw
at least an eagle ray a day. There are plenty of splendid toad fish,
lobsters and turtles, and we found 4 reef octopus at a night dive.
Their optional twilight/night boat dives are worth every penny you pay
for. We did not like that they never mentioned an emergency procedure
or enforce the marine reserve rules.
| Our fellow diver
Norm Descoteaux did very well with air consumption and
buoyancy control. He is now truly an advanced diver. |
