A Photograph from the 191st is "Placed"
Contributed by Peter Patz
Dear Mr Lichty,
It might be interesting for you that I found the location where one of the pictures
from your website was shot. It is the picture of your father, where he stands
behind a 3/4 ton truck (see first attached picture). I was looking through your
great website, and suddenly realized that I knew the building in the background
of the picture: It is the former "Elektrohaus" in my hometown Eisenach.
The picture was taken in the inner city of Eisenach, near one of the main squares.
I attached one picture of the location today (well, almost today: the picture is a year old, and they renewed the street in the meantime). This picture was taken with the same angle of the original picture, just without the 3/4 ton truck in the foreground. The truck stood behind one of the oldest buildings of the city; it is used as a pharmacy since several hundred years. I also attached one picture of the front of this building, where you can see the place where the truck was parked (in a recess just behind the green pharmacy).
I also recognized some names of nearby places/cities in the written history
of the 191st FA, although some are spelled wrong. Very interesting! So it is
quite possible that I might recognize even more locations on pictures.
Best regards,
