"The 'Launching of the Straubing" was an asupicious occasion. It drew a big crowd of onlookers. With great ceremony it was shoved out into the Danube for the maiden voyage. With the motor propelling it, the boad proceeded to GO IN BIG CIRCLES. I appeared to all present that the weight was unevenly distributed. I never saw it go in a straight direction. Further 'tinkering' may have corrected the problem. The 'Straubing' may have made some successful voyages after I left scene. So much for the boat building abilities of the 191st." Barrett Whiteley 2006 The Straubing was launched by member of Battalion Motor Maintenance |
