***VERY IMPORTANT*** It was brought to my attention by some diligent students that this unit had 75 terms...I must confess that my intention was to trim this list down to around 50 before posting it (obviously I never did). I have adjusted the sheet to read as it should (as of 10/21 4:45p.m.). I am also aware that you may have begun the terms and done some that are now removed. I will be more than happy to accommodate you this time for your work with extra credit. Each one fully completed that has been removed will count extra. If you have any problems or questions please e-mail me or see me. Again, I'm sorry for the mix up.

This is an excellent movie, highly acclaimed by critics and moviegoers alike, that everyone should see. Due to some graphic content (nudity and violence, though not at all gratuitous) this movie is rated R so be sure that a parent is with you if you decide to watch the entire movie. The scenes were selected with the high school student in mind. If you are absent on Wednesday, October 22nd or Thursday, October 23rd you need make up this assignment. See me for more information. Here is copy of the worksheet to be completed during and after the movie.
SOL Flash Cards: This assignment was designed specifically for the SOL test in May in mind. All of the terms are directly from the SOL curriculum guide. The term or phrase needs to be placed on the blank side of a 3x5 note card. On the lined side, place the definition or description of the term or phrase. All of these will be topped by a title card (for example: the title card for this unit would read AGE OF DISCOVERY/WORLD ABOUT 1500). There will be periodic quizzes throughout the year on all these cards where the student will be permitted to use his/her flash cards.

In conjunction with the unit on World War II, I will be showing my classes the opening scene from Saving Private Ryan. This depicts the ordeal of the American soldiers storming the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. This movie is Rated-R and the scene that has been selected graphically depicts the violent nature of warfare. A permission slip will be sent home on Friday, April 16th and Monday, April 19th. A failure to return this slip will be treated the same as a denial to view. Thank you for your consideration and I hope, whichever option is chosen, your child will gain a greater appreciation of the trials and tribulations of war.
