CRITTER HAVEN'S APOLLONIA
CRITTER HAVEN'S BIG CHUNKY
CRITTER HAVEN RABBITRY is dedicated to breeding lionheads that will improve the breed. Therefore, we breed for the standard of
the breed (body, mane, ears, presence on the table and of course their wonderful temperment). We love lionheads and have worked
hard with this breed and are proud of the lions we are putting out. Our doe's are only bred once or twice a year and we are
very selective. We handle our kits from birth so they are well socialized. And only the best will go the the show tables.
We have combined some of the best lines in the country to get our lions and are proud of the work we are doing with them. We
love this breed and hope you find our lions as pleasing as we do.
We do suggest doing your homework before getting any rabbit.
Lionheads require regular grooming and if you are going to show your rabbit do the extra homework and know what to look for in your
rabbit before buying. If buying from a reputable breeder, they don't mind answering questions and they will more likely
welcome questions and excitement for the breed and want to help you along.
Lionheads are also great pets as they are small (only
maximum 3 1/2 pounds) and very personable. They are easily litter trained and love to play with toys like most rabbits.
Lionheads do best though in the house or in an are that can be kept cool in the summertime, lions cannot tolerate the heat or humidity
well and can succumb quickly to heatstroke.
Our rabbitry now is involved in breeding Polish Rabbits. This is a wonderful little compact breed. We have begun breeding
Chocolates, Blacks, Broken Chocolates, Broken Blacks, and our new project will be the Blues. Again, we invest in great
lines to hopefully produce only superior animals and our first litters have been great. We hope to go far with this new
addition to our rabbitry .
I have always loved big dogs and big horses so it sort of made sense when I fell hard for those lovable Flemish Giants.
They
act like little puppies - they follow you around, play with your shoes, chase you, chase your cat and dogs in the house to play and
very neatly use the litter box - WOW - GIANT HOUSE BUNNIES. I originally got one to show and to use for education, but got hooked.
Now we breed them for show and pets.
I was lucky enough to find and make so great new friends with Winning Flemish Breeders Juan
Perez who owns IBERIA RABBIT FARM and Calixto Arocho who owns AROCHO RABBITRY. They were both willing to help me with the breed
and I got great stock from them. They both have given me some great info and encouragement. Please visit their sites or
farms and see their award winning rabbits.
My first litters have been very impressive and have proven themselves on the show
tables locally and at the National level. I am extremely proud of the Flemish I am breeding and I hope to continue with great
litters that we have been producing.
Currently we breed Light Gray, Steel and occasional White and Black will come in too.
We hope to be breeding Fawns soon.
