What
defines a successful land conservancy effort?
Does
it mean that:
- land
will be protected from development permanently?
- a
landowner has made an outright gift of land to a land trust or
other entity?
- land
is preserved to be used by the general public for outdoor recreation?
- a
relatively natural habitat for fish, wildlife, plants or similar
ecosystem is protected?
- open
space, including farmland and forest land, is preserved for its
ecological benefits and the scenic enjoyment of the general public?
- a
historically important structure or land area is conserved?
While
investigating land conservancy success stories, we have found
that the definition can change depending on the goals of the
landowners and other interested parties. The result may be a
complex multi-faceted solution.
The
following examples present a broad range of conservancy solutions.
