Photographs of 191st members from Robert Lichty's Scrapbook

Robert Lichty was born and grew up in Beatrice, Nebraska.   Most of what I know of his Army career is through the letters and telegrams he send to my mother, Ruth Lichty.   He was inducted into the Army at Ft. Levenworth in October, 1942.  He went through basic training at Camp Roberts, California.   For some reason he didn't pass a physical in December, 1942.  We think it is because of an old football injuryj to his back.

I believe failing the physical kept him out of the infantry and put him into to the artillery - the 191st which was also stationed at Camp Roberts.  I believe he joined the 191st around January, 1943, well after the battalion had formed and a year after it had been transferred to Camp Roberts.  He quickly make friends with many men in the 191st.

This page contains photographs that he had sent to my mother.  Most of the photographs have other persons from the 191st indentified.  I have included my father's notes as he wrote them.  Click on a photgraph to see a larger image.
