Happy Thanksgiving!

Congratulations!  We all survived a very busy October!  We Juniors are certainly starting off this year very active.  You all deserve to be commended, considering that we have made a profit of close to $750 in our first two months of our Fiscal year. What a great beginning.  That does not even take into consideration our share of parking from the Durham Fair.  Now that we have a nest egg, it is very importat that we  concentrate on caring for the needs of the community.  Yes, it's that time of year again. Teachers appreciation luncheon, Tree Lighting and the Seniors Harvest Bingo.  November is looking busy too.  I am very proud of all that we as a group are accomplishing. I hope you share in that sentiment as well.  We cannot be a succesful group if we do not remember that we need to grow, care, give and share... especially around the Holiday Season.  I for one am very gratetful this November for all the hard work and commitment that our organization has continues to do.

Elizabeth and I attended the Fall conference in Shelton on Oct 30th.  We had a memorable and laugh filled day.  I will share with you how on Thursday's meeeting. Trust me , you won't want to miss it! I will give out a prize to those who remember to bring a straw to the meeting.  I successfully unloaded a car full of donations for CT Quest for Peace.  Thank you to Kathy DeBrum, Sue D, Paula and Tina Levine for contributing to this cause. I also brought back with me a jar to collect Pennies for Time for Life for the Trumbull Juniorettes. Please consider donating some loose change.

Thank you for those who provided snacks for the election workers. I am sure they greatly apreciated the thought.  I would also like to Thank Kathy Debrum for heading up Firemens appreciation night and for Karen Fiddler for offering to be the Project leader for Seniors Harvest Bingo.  I can't thank enough Tim and Paula Murphy for all their hard work and generosity in opening up their basement to the public for the Haunted Basement. A fun time was had by all, and for a first time event, it went very smoothly, with everyone having a memorable time! Kudos to the Murphy's!  I hope you all are ready to volunteer for a few more events coming up. Lets keep this tremendous momentum going. There will sign up sheets for Tree Lighting as well as Teachers appreciation and Seniors Harvest bingo at the November General meeting. If you are unable to attend this Thursday night's general meeting, please remember to call either Kathy Debrum or myself.  If you are unable to attend, please let us know which event you will be able to assist with.  Thank you in advance for all your help.

Happy November and Turkey Day Everyone!

Membership and Ways & Means enjoyed the DMYFS FAMILY FUN DAY event on Saturday,
October 16, 2004. Thank you to all of our fellow members that participated in
the event. We had a nice opportunity to meet some new neighbors and potential
members. Three women indicated they would be interested in getting additional
information about the club and one person signed up to help with Tree lighting.
Nancy did an outstanding job of putting together informational poster boards,
and we raffled off a Middlefield blanket to Lisa Highbridge. The kiddies really
enjoyed the free tattoos Paul supplied and the Frisbee decorating continues to
be a popular activity. Although the weather seemed to have dampened the
attendance expectations, it did not prevent this from being a successful event.
There were approximately 250 in attendance.

We would like to welcome Julie Fosdick to the club. We look forward to having
you share in our commitment to community service. She will be installed at the
November meeting.

MOVIE NIGHT- Membership will be eyeing up the movie opportunities so we can
enjoy a fun filled night out at the movies on Tuesday November 16. Debbie will
have more info regarding the latest titles at the general meeting. Feel free to
ask someone who may be interested in joining our club. It's a low key way to
check us out and have some fun!

Thank you to Laura for coordinating the SECRET PALS this year. Someone you
remember by sending her a card, a small gift (under $5.00), a small token such
as a candy bar, pencil, bookmark etc. What if I don’t know her very well, you
ask. Well, that’s why everyone will fill out the info form and answer a few
questions. You can then surprise your SP and get to know her better as we go
along. Laura will let those participating know who they have at the November
General.

Be sure to take your copy of the ADDRESS/PHONE LIST home with you. It has been
updated to reflect the latest changes. Don’t leave this item in your folder.
It will be important if we need to activate the Phone Chain.

HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS-It is hard to believe December is just around the corner.
That means at our December meeting we all get to share a Potluck meal and a
friendly Chinese Auction. Look for the sign-up sheet in the binder so you can
pick your goodie of choice to bring and share with your fellow Juniors. There
will also be a sign-up sheet for the Chinese Auction (grab bag) so we have an
idea how many will be participating. The Grab Bag gift price is $10.00.

     HARVEST BINGO FOR SENIORS
AT SUGARLOAF TERRACE 11/13
We will host Harvest Bingo for the seniors at Sugarloaf Terrace on Saturday,
November 13,2004 form 2:00 - 4:00PM.

The plan is to have snacks and goodies and play bingo and win prizes.  Look for
a sign up sheet at November general.

I will need a couple of volunteers so if you can help out that would be great.

See you at the General!   Karen

Merry Christmas...well almost!

However it is that time of year to gear up for tree lighting. We had our first meeting in Oct where we learned we have to find a new Santa, however, Mrs. Claus is eager to attend!. We will bring you all up to date at the meeting. The donation letters have been sent out and there will be a sign up sheet at the November General. I would like to have a quick update meeting right after the meeting on Thurwday to recap and set up the task list for volunteers for the event. We will be at the community center setting up from 10:00 to 2:00 on Saturday morning.  We invite all to attend this festive decorating session. Tree lighting will be at 5:00p.m. on Sunday Dec 5th. Those who sign up to assist should come around 4:00. This is our largest attendind event of the year. Please consider being an active participant in it!  We will be asking for x-mas props to decorate the stage again so start thinking about what you can loan for a day so you can let me know at the meeting.      And remember...you better watch out, you better not pout, Santa Claus is coming to town!!

 Susan Deane
I hope you all had a great Halloween!   I think we live in one of the most beautiful areas of New England during the autumn season.  The trees around here are so gorgeous this time of year.

At times you may have found the link to the Juniors website occupied with my SweetSurroundings.biz website instead.  I'm sorry about that.  The publishing settings are so similar between these two websites that I maintain that it's very easy for me to get my lines crossed.

In the spirit of thanksgiving, you may like to send an email note to a United States Service Member.  I'm sure they would enjoy a note from fellow citizen to know how much we appreciate all the sacrifices they are making to serve to our country. Click the DearAbby link below to do this.

I have a 'Getting to Know You'  questionaire for each of you at the next meeting.   I'll see you then!
Thanks.   Susan

Paula Murhpy & Diana Hall
Fall seems to be wrapping up quickly! Our fall fundraisers are coming to a close and were a success!

We would like to thank the Murphy family for so generously opening up their home for the Haunted Basement. It was "spooktacular"!  Thank you also to all of the club members and families for your help and support. The collaborative effort of all made this a great event!

The Yankee Candle merchandise is in.  Diana Hall will bring the orders to the Thursday night general meeting. Please remember to pick up your goods.

With the holiday season fast approaching, please remember that the club has beautiful ornaments and blankets for sale. Word of mouth is a great way to advertise.

Looking forward to seeing everyone Thurday night.

Thank you Paula & Tim Murphy for opening your hearts and home by hosting a great
fund raiser for Juniors  with your Haunted Basement!  You guys did a great job decorating
and we all had a spine-tingling good time.  It was simply SPOOKTACULAR!
Sincerely,  Sue

A little something to humor our friends expecting babies...
Pregnancy Differences

Your Clothes
- 1st baby: You begin wearing maternity clothes as soon as your OB/GYN confirms your pregnancy.
- 2nd baby: You wear your regular clothes for as long as possible.
- 3rd baby: Your maternity clothes ARE your regular clothes.

The Baby's Name
-1st baby: You pore over baby-name books and practice pronouncing and writing combinations of all your favourites.
- 2nd baby: Someone has to name his or her kid after your great-aunt Mavis, right? It might as well be you.
- 3rd baby: You open a name book, close your eyes, and see where your finger points.

Preparing for the Birth
- 1st baby: You practice your breathing religiously.
- 2nd baby: You don't bother practicing because you remember that last time, breathing didn't do a thing.
- 3rd baby: You ask for an epidural in your 8th month.

The Layette
- 1st baby: You pre-wash your newborn's clothes, colour-coordinate, and fold them neatly in the baby's little bureau.
- 2nd baby:You check to make sure that the clothes are clean and discard only the ones with the darkest stains.
- 3rd baby: Boys can wear pink, can't they?

Worries
- 1st baby: At the first sign of distress -- a whimper, a frown -- you pick up the baby.
- 2nd baby: You pick the baby up when her wails threaten to wake your firstborn.
- 3rd baby: You teach your 3-year-old how to rewind the mechanical swing.

Activities
- 1st baby: You take your infant to Baby Gymnastics, Baby Swing, and Baby Story Hour.
- 2nd baby: You take your infant to Baby Gymnastics.
- 3rd baby: You take your infant to the supermarket and the dry cleaner.

Going Out
- 1st baby: The first time you leave your baby with a sitter, you call home 5 times.
- 2nd baby: Just before you walk out the door, you remember to leave a number where you can be reached.
- 3rd baby: You leave instructions for the sitter to call only if she sees blood.

At Home
- 1st baby: You spend a good bit of every day just gazing at the baby.
- 2nd baby: You spend a bit of every day watching to be sure your older child isn't squeezing, poking, or hitting the baby.
- 3rd baby: You spend a little bit of every day hiding from the children.
