Characters Of Danguard Ace |
Lt.
Takuma Ichimonji (a.k.a. Winstar Blackstar) Takuma is the main character of the story (the hero, if you will). He was the sole survivor of Captain Dan's rigorous flight training. He struggled throughout the series but persevered to become the chief pilot of the Satelizer/Danguard Ace. Rather resembles a very young Captain Harlock or Susumu Kodai of Space Battleship Yamato fame. |

Lisa Kirino(just "Lisa" in Force Five) Lisa is quite simply, the token female of the show and Dr. Oedo's niece. Much like Nova (of StarBlazers) or Nebula (of Gaiking), she is the computer operater at Jasdam Base. Later in the series, she gets to pilot the Space Lady, Sky Arrow, and Space Arrow on space recon missions. Spent the beginning of the series worrying about Takuma during his exhausting training. |

Dr.
Oedo (a.k.a. Commander Cross) He is the head of the new Promete Project and commander of the Jasdam Base. He raised Takuma during the 10 year absence of Dantetsu Ichimonji (Takuma's father). He had to watch Takuma grow up with the pain of his past... He is the only one who know's Captain Dan's true identity (at the request of Capt. Dan). Most of the time finding it very frustrating keeping the secret from Takuma. |

Captain
Dan Captain Dan appeared in the first episode as the mystery pilot in the Doppler Corps. uniform flying a Doppler fighter plane. He forced down Takuma's fighter (for Takuma's own good) and shot down the Doppler robot for him. He then landed at the Jasdam Base as "Mr. X" having no memory of his true identity. Mr. X is a former masked slave from the Doppler Corps. Because of the lack of fighter pilot experience at Jasdam, Mr. X's excellent pilot skills, and the fact that the Danguard is far from being completed, Mr. X is brought in by Professor Oedo as "Captain Dan" to train 3 gifted pilots for the Danguard Ace. Will we ever find out the identity of Captain Dan? |

|
He was one of the original pilots in the first Promete Project. That project went terribly wrong and all the pilots were believed lost. He is Takuma's father. Takuma watched as contact was lost and his father was branded a traitor. He returned 10 years later as Takuma's flight instructor. However, not as Takuma's father but as a masked man known as Captain Dan! When will Takuma find out who Captain Dan really is? Captain Dan says, "When he becomes a man..." |

Bunta
He is the chief mechanic/engineer of the all the fighter planes at Jasdam Base, including the Danguard Ace/Satelizer. Very hot-headed about the abuse the planes and other vehicles take and often let's his high temper get the best of him resulting in physical violence (i.e. he punches somebody out, usually Takuma). So, if he's your mechanic, you'd better change your oil every 3000 miles on the fly or else! :) |
Sado
Sakazo Sensei
or
Dr. Sado The doctor of the Jasdam Base. Does he look familiar? He should! He also starred in Space Battleship Yamato (StarBlazers as Dr. Sane). That crazy Matsumoto and his manga crossovers... :) And yes, Sado's still a lush! Look for the infamous bottle o' saki in an original episode of Danguard Ace! |
||||
Myo-chan(a.k.a. Bunky) She's Bunta's little sister. Very emotional (runs in the family). They say every anime has their mascot? Danguard Ace has multiple mascots and she's one of them. :) |
Tamaga(a.k.a. Circuts) "Tamago" in Japanese means "egg." Obvious by the shape of his chasis. The comic relief/mascot of the Jasdam Base. IQ-9 of StarBlazers can hula, but can he water-ski? :) |
||||
Dr.
Tanuki Tanuki is the chief technician on Jasdam. He built Tamaga and also designed the mind probing device which proved to be very useful in finding out where Mr. X/Captain Dan came from (or if Mr. X was telling the truth when he initially landed at Jasdam base). |
Kubo One of the first 3 pilots training under Captain Dan. Very courageous but has been known to crack under pressure. Ever wonder where Winstar(Takuma) got that trumpet in Force Five? It was Kubo(Roger's)... Kubo died in episode 9 in his fighter as he tried to save Takuma and Captain Dan from Mecha-Satan "Soundar's" deadly sound-waves. He was forced to Kamikaze his fighter jet into the volcano below the action. This helped destroy Soundar. Takuma kept the trumpet as a keepsake for his lost friend... |
Kanaya The other of the 3 pilots (Takuma and Kubo are the others) to be trained by Captain Dan. He discoverd and helped correct the T- Formation defect in the Sky Arrow and the Satelizer. He was forced into an early retirement as the they used Mecha-Satan "Galagus'" weapon to correct the T-Formation. As he set sail leaving all his friends behind at Jasdam, Takuma and Captain Dan fly over his ferry in the Satelizer to bid him a final farwell. |

The
Cook Yup, he feeds the crew. You could say, "he cooks." Don't break his best China plates or you'll be eating off paper plates! *Another one of those very familiar characters seen in Captain Harlock (another of Leiji Matsumoto's great stories). |
Not sure of his
real name Dr. Tanuki's asst. technician. Doesn't have much of a role except "base-clown." Though he did help in the rescue of a small island village by converting Tamaga into a radio to send an SOS. *Fun Fact: He can't swim! :) |
Taro
the "Poket
Monkey" During a flight exercise of the "U" formation, a strange space capsule was falling to Earth. Takuma was the first to discover that it was from an old space program that time seemed to have forgotten... In this space capsule was Taro the pocket monkey. He was an immediate hit with everyone on the base but he didn't like Bunta much... |

Jet
Joe An aerobatics stunt pilot recruited by Captain Dan to co-pilot Danguard Ace. He's very cocky and likes to show off. Captain Dan likes the idea that he keeps Takuma on his toes and competitive. He was later captured by the Doppler Corps. and recruited into Tony Harken's Elite Squadron. But Joe is no traitor. He steals a Harken fighter plane and tries to get word back to the Jasdam base of Doppler's plans to take off for Promete. However, he is shot down by Gudon and later dies in Takuma and Hideto's arms. |
Hideto
Oboshi Hideto was Jet Joe's supporting cast in the aerobatics show. He piloted the bi-plane in the show. Captain Dan was impressed with his flying skills as well as Joe's. Hideto is more down to Earth and level-headed than Joe. But like Joe he has to compete with Takuma for a spot in piloting the Danguard Ace. Hideto ultimately wins the spot and co-pilots with Takuma as the time for Jasdam to take off for Promete draws near... |
