Out in the Fenlands
This song, to the tune of "Under the Boardwalk", was written for Handsome Molly's visit to the 2004 Whittlsea Straw Bear Festival and in honor of our good friends, Pig Dyke Molly

The team enters, huddled against the cold, shivering. Mary is singing “In the Bleak Midwinter”
Debbi: They say this is going to be one of the coldest winters in years.
Linda: Yeah! And we’re supposed to get a lot of snow.
Roger: I hate these New Jersey winters!
They turn to see Bob grinning from ear to ear.
Eileen: Hey, Bob, what are you smiling about?
Bob: I’m thinking about where I’ll be this winter.
Peggy: What do you mean?

Basses: Doom, Doomba, Doom, Doom, Doomba Doom …

Bob: Oh when the snow beats down and drops a foot upon the roof
And your feet get so cold you wish your weary toes were winter proof
Out in the Fenlands, in Whittlesea
In a gang of molly dancers is where I’ll be

Company:Out in the Fenlands    Bob:In the English sun
Out in the Fenlands We’ll be having fun
Out in the Fenlands Where a fish is a fish
Out in the Fenlands But a chip is no chip!
Out in the Fenlands All:Fenlands!

Bob: In the streets I hear the gentle sound of Tony’s yell    Debbi: Good grief!!
You can almost see the dancers jump. They dance so well.
Out in the Fenlands, in Whittlesea
In a gang of molly dancers is where I’ll be

Company:Out in the Fenlands    Bob:Where a car is a car
Out in the Fenlands But a boot is no boot
Out in the Fenlands Where a rug is a rug
Out in the Fenlands But a shag is no shag!
Out in the Fenlands All:Fenlands!

Bob: In the Market Place Square a tuba grunts “Heart of My Heart”
And the accordion wails as Dave and Rob both do their part.
Out in the Fenlands, in Whittlesea
In a gang of molly dancers is where I’ll be

Company:Out in the Fenlands    Bob:Where a straw is a straw
Out in the Fenlands But a bear is no bear
Out in the Fenlands Where a pig is a pig
Out in the Fenlands But a dyke is no dike!
Out in the Fenlands All:Fenlands!
