Sonny Remembers His Childhood, 1995

This scene is so powerful. It gives us just a glimpse of the pain and damage Mike leaving Sonny as a child caused.

Scene: After Sonny and Luke speak about Mike showing up, Sonny flashes back to his parents
fighting when he was a child. We see Sonny as a small boy, in bed, listening to them.

Mike: I work my tail off for it!

Adela: You just gambled it away!

Mike: I was ahead...I was ahead all night. My luck turned!

Adela: Now, you probably want me to go to my father.

Mike: He can afford it!

Adela: It’s not his job. You have a child to take care of!

Mike: We should never have had the kid in the first place.
You had to get pregnant right away and now we’re saddled with the kid!
What about me...what about my life? I’m sick of this crap!

(leaves house, slamming door)

(the camera stays on young Michael for a moment, then switches to Sonny,
crying in his apartment)
