Mission:

Advocating non-motorized transportation methods connecting the Brighton Millpond, Imagination Station, Yum Yum Tree, Dairy Queen and public bathroom to bikepaths in surrounding townships, Metroparks and Island Lake State Park, as part of network of bikepaths from Chicago to Boston.

Tasks:

We are working with City of Brighton officials to create these bikepaths:

 •  West from downtown Brighton to Brighton High School (perhaps via Lindbom Elementary), to Genoa Township's safety path that goes past Maltby Middle School, north to Mt. Brighton and south to Brighton State Park, Hamburg, Ore Lake, and soon connections to Dexter and eventually Chicago.  For 2006.

To do this, we could contract to paint on-street bikepath from Millpond/Imagination Station/bathrooms, north on 1st Street, over the hump at Chestnut, north on 1st, west on Walnut across the railroad tracks (with signal), south on 4th Street, west on State Street (or past Lindbom Elementary—can serve kids walking to school, too?), south on 7th Street, connecting to the Genoa Township safety path.   Or we could build new railroad crossing from Cedar to State Street, with paint on-street to the Millpond, west on State Street (or past Lindbom Elementary), south on 7th Street, connecting to the Genoa Township safety path.

 •  South from downtown Brighton to Scranton Middle School.  For 2006.

To do this, we could contract to paint on-street bikepath from above bikepath, south on 3rd St., continuing on Fairway Trails, to existing painted bikepath on Peppergrove and existing safetypath to Scranton Middle School.

 •  East from downtown Brighton to Island Lake State Recreation Area (map), and connections to Kensington Metropark and South Lyon and eventually to Port Huron and Boston.  For Green Oak Township in 2006-8.

To do this, we could build along Grand River or the CSX access road, crossing US-23 next to Grand River or stand-alone bridge at Maltby Road, then connect to the approved Green Oak safety path along southern boundary of the new mall and into Island Lake State Recreation Area.

 •  North (1) from downtown Brighton to Meijer Skate Park and Brighton District Library.  For 2006.

To do this, we could contract to paint on-street bikepath from Millpond/Imagination Station, north on 1st Street, over the hump at Chestnut, north on 1st, west on Walnut, north on 2nd Street, along the Meijer road by their gasoline station, and west on Meijer Drive to the Skate Park and library.

 •  North (2) from downtown Brighton to approved Brighton Township trails along Hilton and Hunter Roads.  For 2007.

To do this, we could go over existing boardwalk, to a new painted crossing of Grand River, along the Upper Millpond, up Flint Road, over I-96 at Flint Road.

 •  Northwest from downtown Brighton to Howell.  For 2007-8?

Via Grand River, under I-96, to existing Genoa Township safetypaths?  Take the West route to Maltby MS, north to Mt. Brighton, then on via Challis and Dorr Roads?

Come help us make this happen!
