Benefits for Friends: As a Friend you may also participate in our docent and volunteer program. You can receive hands-on experience on such activities as mud plastering and adobe building. You will also receive the Monument’s quarterly newsletter. Depending on your type of membership you will receive free passes to State Monuments, a one time use of the Monument with its breath-taking views of the Rio Grande River and Sandia Mountains for an evening event. Perhaps the biggest benefit is the knowledge that your membership donation is helping maintain this uniquely beautiful and historic site.
From the President, James Conder. The Board of Directors would like to welcome all who wish to become members of the Friends of Coronado State Monument. These are exciting times for all who are working to make the Friends a vibrant and effective association! Our organization is growing from the original nucleus of five interested (and interesting) people to over 50 supportive members. We have already provided well-attended and excellent programs this year, including lectures on history and archaeology of the region and a tour of the ancient Native American turquoise mine near Cerrillos -- and a lot more is planned for the remainder of 2006. There will be more lectures, workshops and tours, and each activity brings in new members. For all this I say THANK YOU to the Board and to our membership -- you are making a real difference in our Mission “to increase awareness and appreciation of Coronado State Monument”. Please read about all the upcoming events and continue to support us with your presence, your enthusiasm and from time to time with a little “sweat equity”. We are associated with a fascinating historic treasure, a monument to prehistoric Indian culture; we truly need to protect and promote this unique gift from the past.
