Not your grandmother's Oldsmobile

Now what's up with this: Tales of a Basque Grandmother?

Valderree

Well guess what? I have exactly one month to do whatever the hell I want. Yes, that's right children, I have the entire month off--no work--no students--no regular shaving. And, indeed, my knapsack will be on my back. We shall see where Clint's wintertime adventure takes him! Stay tuned!

All praise the mighty Dell!

Friend Charkes has a great entry today about a rather idiotic article that practically elevates Dell computers and its founder to Godhood. All praise Dell! All praise the mighty Dell!

Go read it.

Like anyone gave a rat's ass

Well I decided to take the big old plunge and buy up signifyingnothing.com. Charkes, of course, thinks it is far far too long. I like making people type, however. Why am I wasting my money thusly, you ask? Well remember all the fiasco with Communistcast and AT&T&A? I fear it coming again. In any case, the first opportunity I have to bolt from the big C, I am. Holding onto signifyingnothing.com will at least give me the option of easily migrating myself.

How seriously we take our hobbies, eh?

Oh yeah

And I still really like my Molympics pages, despite their urgent need for some page fixing for Mozilla.

Primrose lane

I've been having a wander through my own archives and decided that I was a much more interesting person a year ago but even more interesting a year-and-a-half ago or maybe even earlier. I mean, my hell, I haven't even had a good ghost watch for so long. I think I've returned to the beginning. At least I don't pimp stupid quizes anymore. Hey, I only did it a couple of times. Gaseesh

Hmm. I have had some really terrible layouts, over the past couple of years.

I still love my proto-blogs, however. I should make some new ones. They are actually more like what the definition of "blog" is--links to content. I still prefer a journal, however. Just linking and commenting on other's content seems pointless: only to feed bots that surf around and see what is most popular.

(Note to self: I will never use the term "blog" again to refer to journal writing.)

In any case, if I really were a horrible infection, I would be rabies.

(Oh and Jeff Bridges' site still is the best damn site I've ever seen.)

(Woo hoo! I've turned into MTV! Constantly reviewing the significance of my past! Even though its past is only a couple of years old. Wee!)

Yeah.

Currymistmas

Guess what? It is Currymistmas tomorrow. Basically this is a freaky tradition started some years ago with and off-and-on adherence at my job where folks bring in whatever curry dish they choose to burn holes in the tongues of their co-workers. The hotter the curry the better. And how/why did I learn to cook curry, you ask?

All to please a girl, of course. She quite liked Indian and Thai food and so did I, so we got a cook book and went to town. For some reason I had a knack for making curry. I think it was basically because I am somewhat of a methodical person who follows the rules but at the same time tries to understand why to follow them. Indian or Thai has some very specific rules, that, once grasped, make sense and can be elaborated on. Once we had made our first curry, there was no looking back from there.

I will say I am rather pleased with my curries, and so are others. It is a regular party favor. People trot me out and say "look what tricks he can do!" It is a bit like being a trained seal. I can dig that. My friend Allison once wanted to contract me to cook for her. I'm not kidding.

As I said, I like curry as hot as possible, of course. A good curry makes wussy-ass chili taste like your momma's oatmeal porridge. While a proper Thai curry can cause hallucinations, a straight-up properly made Indian curry can send you off to Nirvana. Not surprisingly, it is somewhat difficult to find curry this hot in Utah, and according to my friend Chris, who is English and therefore an expert in all things curry, there is only one place in the US that has a decently hot enough Indian curry. Chris makes statements like that often. Because of the lack of any restaurants that make a proper curry (now I'm not casting aspersions on the Indian restaurants in SLC--they just don't make a curry hot enough), I have to make them myself.

I take curry seriously, you see.

I was thinking of doing one of my standards that always pleases for tomorrow, baingan bharta (eggplant curry), but chose instead to go with another standard, channa masala (chickpea curry). Most folks seem to dig chick peas. I've toned down the heat, however, so as not to kill any of my colleagues.

You can try to catch a glimpse of Currymistmas, if you like. We'll be broadcasting live from the Panopticouch, 12 noon, mountain standard time. Well we won't be broadcasting, per say, but someone might wander over to the couch and pass out from the curry goodness.

Oh yeah

And the Jazz came this close (><) to clocking the Lakers. Screw you Karl. Well he actually did have kind words for his old team. Anyways, I won't boo him when I go see the game when they are in town. Did I ever tell you how much I hate the Lakers? Fuckwads.

Snow

Brenda is always wanting snow pictures, so her is one for all you all. Enjoy snowy SLC. I actually had the opportunity to wear my snow boots today. It is not that it hasn't snowed in the past while, but I had left them at work on the last snowy day last spring.
