Northeast Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council  (NEMLEC)

Note that for at least some purposes NEMLEC has merged with BAPERN

Although the NEMLEC system is a well-engineered system of microwave-linked repeaters, its use appears to be loosely regulated.  Tac 3 is occasionally used as a backup local repeater when a Tac 1 repeater fails.  The NEMLEC system is used mostly as follows:

482.6375 Tac 3   Repeater, Town to town or car to town calling/communications.
482.3875 Tac 4   Simplex, Short range portable or sensitive information
485.3875 Tac 5   Simplex, Where used, same as Tac 4 

Reading PD has the license and equipment to access 482.7375, North Reading's Tac 1.  This is often used as a tie between the two communities when suspect vehicles cross the town line on Route 28 or Haverhill Street. 

Wakefield and Arlington are active on the NEMLEC system even though they are primarily BAPERN communities.  Wakefield answers during NEMLEC tests and simulcasts bulletins on BAPERN 3 and NEMLEC 2.
