North Essex Police Emergency Radio Network (NESPERN)

This system covers the Northeast corner of Massachusetts. It replaced an older VHF system that was highly fragmented. The reason for building this system was supposed to be concern for communications during disaster operations in the event of an accident at the Seabrook Nuclear Plant in New Hampshire. In addition to their own operations frequencies, most towns have capability on adjacent towns frequencies.
