"So Fine"/"Everybody Has Their Own Ideas"...(Sidewalk 937)
Before The Stone Poneys were signed to Capitol, Mike Curb took
an interest in them.
In 1965 he produced a 45 for Mercury Records. Davie Allen (from The
Arrows)
played guitar, and some of the other Hondells helped out on this session
single. The
proposed deal with Mercury Records didn't pan out because the record
company
wanted to take the group in a "Surfer" direction, so this material
wasn't released.
Mercury owned the masters and the release rights, but Curb had possession
of the tapes.
A few years later, after The Stone Poneys had signed with Capitol,
and Curb had a
distribution deal with them for his Sidewalk Records, he took the liberty
of using
those tapes (that Mercury had paid for) to release a 45 on Sidewalk.
When Capitol
discovered what had happened, they deleted the single immediately.
The majority
of surviving 45s of this title are promo copies because of this.
The Goldmine Discography has an incorrect listing for the b-side.
It should be
"Everybody Has Their Own Ideas", not Everyone.
