Harvard Square Scriptwriters was founded in 1986
by Boston native Laura Bernieri. She returned to Massachusetts
after working for ten years in the entertainment industry in Los
Angeles. Drawing on her experiences with story conferences and
other writing groups she created Harvard Square Scriptwriters to
be a development company working outside the studios and networks
to provide the highest quality material possible.
Laura realized that too many scriptwriters work
alone, almost in a vacuum, while film production is a
collaborative art and a collaborative vision.
The techniques she developed help writers get to
the heart of their stories. More important, her methods help
writers "work outside the white rectangle" and
communicate and collaborate with producers, directors, and other
artists and craftspeople who will use their script not as a
blueprint, but as a map to new and undiscovered visions of
reality.
From its beginnings as a group of ten men and women
gathered around an oval table in Harvard University's Guttmann
Library, Harvard Square Scriptwriters has been dedicated to
helping writers nurture, develop, and refine not only individual
scripts, but their talents and skills as well.
Steve Gianino, Scott Anderson, and the rest of the
Harvard Square Scriptwriters team, continue the tradition of
helping writers develop their craft and perfect their vision.
