The technical files are a collection of works that I have written in my efforts to help others get the most of their computers. The links page is a collection of free software that you can use for many different things; mostly securing your computer and keeping it healthy, but there's also some links to commonly needed information about computers and their security. If you follow the advice given there, you should be able to keep your computer reasonably safe and healthy. There is no scarcity of software written with bad intentions in mind; virii, trojan horses, adware, spyware, hijackers, spammers, and hackers. It makes me wonder about the mindset of those who write these nasties. And these people continue to find new ways to insert these nasties into your computer system. There's far too many people who seem to have nothing more to do than to sit around thinking of new ways or new combinations of ways to harm your computer or your computing experience. It makes money for some of them, as evidenced by the coolweb hijacker, but is some money really worth the lost integrity, values, and ethics? To deliberately vicitimize someone for a few bucks? Well, considering the world we live in, All we can do is deal with what we face with what we have. The links page might help you secure your computer and may even answer a few questions about it.
While working as a volunteer for the TechTV's Call for Help message board, I once wrote a fairly long answer to a question about windows 2000/XP and virtual memory. When I was done, it was almost a complete treatise on the subject. I simply reformatted it, added a bit more information, and present it to you for your consideration.
Meanwhile, the TechTV message boards have merged with G4. The result is G4TechTV. You can sometimes find me at the Tech Support board under Games, Gadgets, Gear, and Gigabytes. This merge will combine the quite substantial expertise of the TTV board regulars with the also quite substantial expertise of the G4 regulars. The exchange of information between the two groups should prove quite impressive.
