"Horsehead Nebula" Region

The Horsehead Nebula is the dark nebula B33 in silhouette against the nebulosity known as IC434 in the center of this image. The brightest star in this view is Alnitak, the easternmost star in the "belt" of Orion. Just below Alnitak is NGC2023, the "Flame Nebula". North is to the left.
Exposure Data: This image is a mosaic of 9 individual frames. Each frame is a result of 180 minutes of exposure (made up of 18x 10 minute sub exposures), and so there are 27 total hours of exposures making up this mosaic. The sub exposures were taken over a 4 month period between 11-11-2006 and 3-12-2007, using a SBIG ST-10XE and Baader 7nm wide bandpass Hydrogen-alpha filter.

Guiding: Autoguided by an SBIG ST-4 using a Takahashi FS60C refractor as a guidescope
