Formation and purpose of the work
The formation of this book sees, as its genesis, my interest in the historical period from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  My study of alcohol and its manifestations and portrayals through the media of postcards and envelopes led to my formation of a collection of paper related memorabilia.  This interest gradually evolved into a collection of material specifically related to the subject of temperance and those individuals and groups who championed the prohibition cause.  In that regard, the compilation of this information is a study of the life of Billy Sunday, the great evangelist and social cause leader of that time.
