Savannah River Rangers
The Savannah River Rangers will conduct a July Cowboy Action match at the Palmetto Posse range near Columbia, SC on Sunday July 20th at 09:30 AM Sharp!
First of all, apologies go out to anyone who took the time, and the gas, to drive to Columbia for the Savannah River Ranger June match at the Palmetto Posse range. Circumstances sort of stepped in the way and, with Surly temporarily out of the loop, well, it just did not happen. We offer our regrets and a stern assurance that things will be different from now on. Barring very severe weather, if we announce a match and you make the effort to come, you will get to shoot.
We are still working on obtaining a new range facility and have a good prospect, but it is too late in the month to set up our own range and match, so, we will accept the Palmetto Posse's hospitality once again and have the match at the Mid-Carolina Rifle Club in Columbia, SC. Match day is Sunday the 20th. Safety Briefing will be at 9:30, and we will start shooting as quickly as possible. There will be 6 stages with lots of shooting, with most stages designed to be very quick with little movement so we can get finished before the peak of the afternoon heat. We will have another "Wild Bunch" Category for all stages will be an option in our July match (reasonably stock 1911 in .45ACP, a '97 shotgun, and any SASS legal rifle). Of course the Wild Bunch shooters will not be eligible for Match Winner since they do have an advantage by having their '97 preloaded, but they will be recognized in their category. The long range weather forecast is for Mostly Sunny and Hot, with only a slight chance of rain. That's about a good as we can expect this time of year, so dress cool. Cowboy Hat and Boots are the only dress requirement. Come on out and join us for a shootin' good time. The Palmetto Posse range is located in the Mid-Carolina Rifle Club on Fish Hatchery Rd. in Gaston. They have great facilities there, including very nice permanent restrooms. Click here for directions
After a short
safety briefing, we'll let the lead start flying as quickly as
possible. REMEMBER, we are quests at this range.
Therefore, we cannot simply shoot and leave as we normally did at
the Jackson range. All of the targets and such must be removed
from the bays and properly stored. Everyone lend a hand
and it will only take a few minutes.
Entry fees are $10 for
Savannah River Ranger members, and $15 for non-members.
