THE CONDUCT OF THIS MATCH IS STILL PENDING...

If you are interested in participating in an "informal" long range match, contact Major Montana.   The match would be held during one of the normal range days at the Fort Gordon Tactical Advantage Sportmans Club (TASC) range.  The intent is to muster an interest group that will assist in developing what could become regularly scheduled long range buffalo matches.  Also of interest is establishing matches that run along a Long Range Black Powder Cartridge Rifle (BPCR) match with all pertenant NRA sanctioned rules applying.

Participants will have the opportunity to pit their skills at engaging targets at ranges from 100 to 500 yards, using single shot rifles designed to shoot cartridges designed around the turn of the century and earlier.  Concepts, Rules and the conduct of the range is outlined below.  A final date will be coordinated with TASC once we determine the level of interest and participation.

Tentative target dates are 8 April , 22 April, 13 May , 20 May, or 27 May.  When we have an idea of the level of interest, we will announce an a date for the first match.

Shooters are encouraged to "Dress The Part" in period clothing

GENERAL CONCEPT:

This match is designed to generally follow NRA BPCR rules and standards as a guideline.  This is an inaugural event; we hope with good participation, to have it move closer to true NRA BPCR standards in following months.

Shooters will engage NRA approved LR-C style paper target centers (measuring 45" on a side) at 100 meters (328 ft) 250 meters (766 ft.), and 400 meters (1,639 ft.).  This closely matches NRA BPCR Intermediate Range match standards (we hope to have steel targets someday)

Close targets (100 meters) are shot off-hand, standing.  The remaining targets are shot either prone or sitting.  Cross sticks or a single shooting stick is acceptable as a rest when shooting the intermediate and long targets.  Bench rests, sand bags and rifle supporting tripods or attached bipods are not allowed.

Each firing order/string will have 10 graded shots.  Shooters may fire up to four optional sighting/fouling shots and then ten shots for record at each target, however, the best score of 10 will count for the aggregate score, for a total of 30 scored shots per match.

TARGETS

All targets are NRA official/approved paper competition targets.  Each shooter will shoot one target per string for a total of 3 targets

SCORING

The overall score of all three targets is compiled to determine the shooters final score .  A "perfect" match will consist of 30 shots with a score of 300.  X-ring hits are counted as 10 but may be used as tie breakers in the event of match ties.

TIE SCORES:

In the event of a tie score, the X-ring score , the highest number of x-rings on all three targets if any,  will determine the overall winner.  If neither shooter has x-ring shots or the number of x-ring shots is also tied, then the Match Director will conduct a shoot off by using a Single String Shoot:  tied shooters will shoot an abbreviated string of 5 rounds (no spotters) at the close range target, offhand.  Highest scoreis declared the winner.
