Prepare Engine to Receive Manifold and Dellorto Carbs
Dismantling (set aside parts for re-use or for restoration of vehicle, if desired)
1. Set the engine at top dead center on the compression stroke, #1 cylinder. If you don’t know how to do this, you probably should not attempt this conversion by yourself. 2. Drain the radiator of coolant. 3. Disconnect the battery. 4. Disconnect and remove air filter hose (4”) 5. Unbolt and remove airfilter and mounting brackets 6. Remove air box from carburetors 7. Disconnect and plug gas line to carbs 8. Remove vacuum line from charoal cannister to manifold vacuum tee 9. Remove vacuum lines and tee from deceleration retard 10. Remove brake vacuum assist hose from manifold 11. Disconnect heater water return hose from manifold 12. Disconnect choke cable from carb 13. Disconnect accelerator cable from carb linkage 14. Disconnect water temperature sensor wire from sending unit on manifold 15. Disconnect vacuum advance vacuum line from carburetor 16. Loosen water return line clamps on manifold 17. Remove manifold mounting nuts 18. Break manifold loose (may have to gently use a pry bar) 19. Remove manifold and carbs as a unit from the engine compartment. 20. Remove the distributor from the auxiliary housing and clean it in preparation for modification.
Clean-up
21. Use scrap pieces of cloth to temporarily plug the exposed water and intake holes to keep foreign objects from entering the cavity. 22. Use two nuts as jam nuts to facilitate removal of all the manifold studs 23. Carefully use a gasket scraper to remove most of the remaining gasket from the manifold mounting surface. Take care not to scratch or gouge the sealing surface 24. Use a razor blade scraper and/or steel wool as a final sealing surface cleanup. 25. Use a brush to paint a little Gunk onto the exposed side of the engine block and auxiliary housing to remove any built up oil, grease and debris. Use rags to wipe out the residue. You may need to apply successive coats to get all the build-up out.. 26. Reinstall the intake manifold mounting studs, using a little Loc-Tite, and torque to 7 ft-lb.
