Indonesian and Philippine Swords

Aceh Peudeueng Peusangan

These are two Aceh Peudeueng. These are called pedang, type 1 in Albert van Zonneveld’s book “Traditional Weapons of the Indonesian Archipelago”. The first has a well made but very flexible blade that I have been told by someone much more knowledgeable than I am is probably of local manufacture. The second has a well made pattern welded blade. Most likely from India. On Vikingsword.com 's forum we have discussed the resemblance to the handles on khanda/firengi. Recently Ariel brought to our attention its resemblance to an indian sword handle called a Gulabghati. It can be found in "Indian Arms and Armour" by Pant. A more correct term for them is A peudeueng peusangan with a hulu meu apet

Another Puedeueng Peusangan this one with a hulu tumpang beunteung

This is a Puedeueng Panjang from Aceh
