After the coaming cutout and coaming rim are installed. I used one piece of walnut (1/8") plywood for this. Note the transition of the glass that I have to sand out yet. Please refer to oneoceankayaks.com for further information on the construction of the coaming. |

Completely cover the foam with masking tape and then spray it with spray adhesive. Then apply a layer of plastic wrap. Be sure to remove ALL wrinkles (or as many as possible). The epoxy will sneak into the fold of the wrinkles and cause you all sorts of problems when it comes time to remove it. |

Application of the graphite cloth (5.7 oz. twill) was real easy and straight forward. Cut the strips of cloth on the bias (45 degrees to the weave) and start laying them down. I placed a strip of 6 oz. first, followed by 2 graphite, glass, 2 graphite and a final layer of glass. I found the graphite so easy to work with that I used one solid strip on each side of the coaming. The regular glass isn't quite as forgiving. The fewer seams the better. The seams tend to telegraph through. The roll-over photo shows the hi-tech look that this cloth adds. |
