Midway on My Mind

 When I was young
The Navy sent me somewhere
On this little island
In the middle of nowhere
Oh I got Midway
I’ve got Midway on my mind

The whitest sand
You know I joined a band
I’m at a loss for words
Oh those gooney birds
Take me back to Midway
I’ve got Midway on my mind

Oh, look at the starry skies above
The place where I first found my true love
The place that I long to be
Is across the sea…………Midway on my mind

Oh how I wish
I could go back in time
Feeling like a kid again
Got Midway on my mind
Oh I got midway
I’ve got Midway on my mind

Oh, look at the starry skies above
The place where I first found my true love
The place that I long to be
Is across the sea…………Midway on my mind

I‘ve got Midway, I’ve got Midway, I’ve got Midway
Midway on my mind………………

The Land that God Forgot!

By: Author Unknown.

 Just across the ocean,
It’s just a little spot.
Where we’re doomed too spend our time,
In the land that God forgot.

Down with the gooney and boatswain bird,
We are gallant men in blue.
Right in the middle of nowhere,
Six thousand miles from you.

Swab’s of the Seventh Fleet,
We dream of a lovely miss.
Oh too hold her in our arms again,
Just to get a treasured kiss.

There in the cold and there in the heat,
Our boots are filled with sand.
Yet we’re not classified as convicts,
But defenders of our land.

No one knows were living,
And no one gives a damn.
At home we’re soon forgotten,
Cause we belong to Uncle Sam.

The time we spend on Midway,
Is the time we’ll never miss.
So let the draft get you boys,
For gods sake don’t enlist.

But when those pearly gates,
Come into a sailors view.
Our frowns will turn to laughter,
For the joke will be on you.

For once inside of Heaven,
You’ll hear St. Peter Yell.
Fall out you men from Midway
You’ve spent your time in Hell.

Midway Heroes

By Edgar Guest

They came with thirty ships or more,
A proud and pagan Fleet.
But lads, in school a year before,
Went out their best to meet.

Brave boys of last year’s football squad,
Or last year’s baseball nine.
Went forth upon the side of god,
To hold his battle line.

They came at dawn; by noon had fled,
But freedom’s sons fought on:
They followed, fighting overhead
Till every shell was gone.

Ship after ship went down in flames
Beneath the Crimson sea,
Or turned with bent and twisted frames
From freedom’s blows to flee.

From Midway fled the stricken foe,
Driven back, may time recall,
By boys in school a year ago,
But heroes, one and all.

The Silent Ranks

By: Author unknown

I wear no uniforms, no blues or army greens.
But I am in the military in the ranks rarely seen.
I have no rank upon my shoulders, Salutes I do not give.
But the military world is the place where I live.

I'm not in the chain of command, orders I do not get.
But my husband is the one who does, this I cannot forget.
I'm not the one who fires the weapon, who puts my life on the line.
But my job is just as tough.  I'm the one that's left behind.

My husband is a patriot, a brave and prideful man
And the call to serve his country not all can understand.
Behind the lines I see the things needed to keep this country free.
My husband makes the sacrifice, but so do our kids and me.

I love the man I married.
Soldering is his life.
But I stand among the silent ranks
Known as the Military Wife.

(This one wasn't really about Midway... but it belongs here!!)

Memorial of Midway Isle

By: Daniel Grande

They fought
They died
They'll be remembered
They fought for freedom
Justice
And right
For they fought at
Midway Isle.

They fought
For all we have stood for
They fought
For you and me
They fought
To end pain and suffering
For they fought at
Midway Isle.

They died
For the future
They died
For the past
They died
To end pain and suffering
For they died at
Midway Isle.

They'll be remembered
Forever in our hearts
They'll be remembered
For their daring deeds
They'll be remembered
For their fight for you and me
For they'll be remembered at
Midway Isle.

Men of Midway

By: Captain John W. Crawford, USN (Ret.)

Men of Midway, still on duty,
Far beyond the western shore,
Strong in courage, love of country
Unconquered, as in days of yore.

To the nation, send your message,
Down the Years, a clarion call
Whate'er the odds, the answer, courage,
Bravery still will vanquish all.

When the call of duty beckons,
Proud to fight for home and nation,
Rise and meet the foe that threatens,
As T'was done on Midway station.

Men of Midway, still on duty,
Down the ages, at the fore
Leading, guiding, still inspiring
As you did in days of yore.
