Exploring Emotions at Zero
Point - Article 2 on Healing Therapy using the Quantum Metaphor

Each of us has probably had times when they experienced emotions which seemed to dominate their awareness. Perhaps it was anger, fear, sadness, disappointment, or some other form of negative feeling which filled your heart. Perhaps, you felt trapped within that reality – one in which the emotion seemed inescapable – becoming the whole world. Last time we asked the question, what if our reality was created by our own observations. Perhaps we can extend this to ask if our view of our own emotions help create the emotional reality we in turn experience more fully. And if so, then can we learn to place this reality into a greater perspective, within which we can gain understanding?
In the last article, we examined the idea that thoughts are things. We explored the basis for the Quantum Metaphor, and examined its foundations as described in the book “Quantum Consciousness” by Steven Wolinski. We then conducted an experiment to explore our new-found abilities to observe and reframe undesirable realities. In this article we will expand this idea to understand emotions in a similar context. We will then do another experiment to explore ways to comprehend and reframe emotions that may be less desirable.
Last time we also discussed the relationship between meditation and hypnosis. We learned that hypnotherapy is focused on coming to terms with important issues in our lives, while meditation is a means by which we can raise our overall world-view to rise above those issues collectively. Now, let’s look at how we can apply a synthesis of these, the Quantum Metaphor, to some potential emotional issues.
The first thing we need to remember is that in the Quantum Metaphor, all things are made of energy. Like thoughts, emotions are simply condensations of the zero-point field. However, emotions can often have far more energy than thoughts. When a powerful issue captures our emotional awareness, we might find that it seems to take us over. We may find ourselves swept out of the present moment, into a reality dominated by the emotional issue. To regain our perspective, we may need to first come to terms with this reality pattern. Once we are able, we can then step out of it and observe that it, like all other thought-things, it is merely an energy form emerging from zero-point.
One side note, before we begin. A dear friend of mine reviewing the first
draft of this article commented that, rather than diminishing the importance of
our emotions, it is important to learn from them. This friend is deeply intuitive, with a
powerful sense of psychic-feeling and a heart as big as
Although this idea departs considerably from Dr. Wolinski’s text, in many ways I agree with it. Emotional issues are a powerful element in our lives, and rather than simply bypassing them, we need to come to terms with them. What are they trying to teach us? What realities do they represent?
Thus, one lesson for me is that like all other paradigms, the quantum metaphor has its limits. We need to be aware of what it can, and can not, do for us. Sometimes it is necessary to go deeply into the core of the issue – through counseling, hypnotherapy, or simply healing tears on the shoulder of a good friend. We need to come to that all-important healing insight. Then, later on, we can deal with things such as transcendence and context. Quantum Therapy can be thought of as one more tool in the tool kit – a powerful adjunct to other ways of healing.
A major life challenge in recent times can serve to illustrate this point. Recently, and quite abruptly, I found myself laid off from what only the day before had seemed to be a comfortable professional position. The emotional ramifications of this are deep and obvious. Faced with this, I found that simply de-labeling the anger and sadness, using the techniques I describe here, were not sufficient. It was necessary to come to terms with the loss and allow the grieving to run its course. It was also necessary to ask what I was supposed to learn from the experience. Coming to terms with all of this, it was then possible to rise above and gain perspective on it, in the rest of my life. For this, Quantum Therapy became extremely effective, helping me to maintain my perspective during that difficult time. I’m sure that many bumps lie ahead on the road. However, this reframing, along many other healing tools - especially the loving understanding of my wife and friends - has helped immensely.
So, having looked at both the strengths and the limitations of the quantum metaphor, let’s try it out with some relatively minor emotions. The following experiment is derived from a similar series of exercises presented in “Quantum Consciousness”. Where last time we looked at how to transcend thought patterns, let’s now look at how to gain perspective on our emotions, seeing that they too are energy.
To begin, let’s again allow ourselves to settle in and explore some of our emotional realities.
I again invite you to relax in your comfortable
space, allowing your eyes to gently close.
Allow yourself to recall a past event - a
reality in time and space in which you experienced some moderate but meaningful
emotions.
Allow that reality to once again fill your
awareness. Feel yourself merging with
it.
Experience the emotions of that reality for a
moment. Allow yourself to fully feel
them.
If you wish, take some time to explore their
meaning for you. How do you experience
them? What do you learn from them?
Now, allow yourself to step out of that reality,
looking at it from a distance.
Notice that the emotions and the reality that
produced them are all made of energy.
Now that you realize this, observe how that
reality has become less prominent – more in perspective. Notice that the thought-thing is just one of
many in your mind-field.
Continue to move your awareness away from the
source of the emotions, focusing only on the emotions themselves, observing
them from a distance.
Notice that once they have become disconnected
from their source, they are now mere energy.
Allow the energy to flow or act in the way most
appropriate for you.
Allow their associated thought-thing to dissolve
back into the zero-point from which it came.
Continue to enjoy the relaxation that comes from
just being within the zero-point field, itself.
Allow yourself to just be…
We have seen in this exercise that we can view our emotions in context to help us deal with the reality giving rise to them. We can also view them as mere energy which can flow in the way best for us. We can then treat the originating thought pattern as a thought-thing rather than the emotionally charged reality which it used to be.
Once again, we must note that Quantum Therapy should not be considered as a substitute for other forms of therapy. Powerful emotional issues may call for the assistance of a therapist and will probably warrant work using other therapies such as hypnotherapy, EMDR, etc. However, we now know that we can also view these patterns simply as energy condensed from the zero-point. They are parts of our mind field which we are free to reframe, enhance, or diminish at will.
I again invite you to do the experiment in this article as many times as you wish. In future articles, we will look further at the zero-point field to better understand its relationship to our created reality. We will also look at more ways in which we can employ the Quantum Metaphor to achieve perspective on ordinary daily issues. We have now taken the next steps toward realizing the healing power of zero-point.
I invite you to explore the zero-point and your own
mind-field. If you wish, feel free to
let me know what you find. Until next
time, enjoy your journey. I wish you
well ….
