The following lists are neither complete nor an endorsement. They are lists of landscapers who have indicated that they are able to provide organic land care services. Please follow good consumer practices. There are many definitions of "organic" for land care practitioners so consumers must be cautious. Beware of landscapers offering organic methods but then switching to synthetic chemical controls to treat a problem. Ask explicitly for no synthetic chemicals. Ask for organic lawn care, question the contractor about training, experience, and philosophy, and obtain a list materials they will use BEFORE they are applied. Don't forget to ask for references. NOFA Accredited Organic Land Care Professionals List This is a list of NOFA Accredited Organic Landscapers who have taken the NOFA training course, passed the exam, and been accredited by NOFA based on continued demonstration of competence in NOFA Standards Organic Land Care. The Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA) recently created Standards for Organic Land Care: Practices for Design and Maintenance of Ecological Landscapes. This 60 page manual (available from NOFA) defines Organic Land Care Standards with the same rigor that is used to define NOFA Organic Food Standards. NOFA offers an annual accreditation course on organic land care for professionals, based on the NOFA Standards. |
