Instep Software LLC
The Client:
InStep Software, LLC, is a leading provider of engineering-based software products and custom solutions with clients in the power generation, telecommunications, and process industries, as well as the U.S. Government. InStep is recognized for its flagship product eDNA, a real-time data historian that captures, analyzes, and stores large quantities of data by monitoring equipment and business systems.
The Problem:
InStep found that it was meeting resistance to its product because its documentation was inadequate. After Logical Directions conducted a documentation needs analysis, InStep decided to tackle the eDNA Getting Started Guide first. Logical Directions designed and wrote the publication and set up Print On Demand (POD) production with a local printer using Xerox Docutech technology.
The Result:
Not content with just creating and producing content, Logical Directions suggested entering the publication in the Society for Technical Communication (STC) competition. After the eDNA Getting Started Guide won an award, we knew we could turn this into a publicity event, so, working with InStep’s publicity team, we scheduled a photo with InStep’s president, John Kalanik and prepared a press release.
Now a company that was once taking hits for its documentation has something to crow about.
