ABOUT COCKATIELS |
|
|
Hand fed and properly socialized cockatiels make exceptional
pets, even for young children (especially when raised around children).
Here are some facts about cockatiels :
Size : 12" / Average Lifespan 18 years although
some can live to be 25 with proper feeding and care. / Cockatiels are
originally from Australia. / Cockatiels are intelligent, easy going and
very affectionate with their families. / While male cockatiels are more
easily trained to talk and sing, it is not unheard of for a female to
break out into song or learn a word or two. I have two female breeders
who sing just as well as the males although not nearly as often as our
males do. / Cockatiels should be fed a main diet of pellets (we use Roudybush,
Zupreem and Lafeber). Seeds should be given as a treat only. Fresh foods
such as veggies, fruits, whole grain cereals should also make up a small
portion of their daily diet. Cuttlebone should be available to all birds
at all times for calcium needs. No additional vitamins (powdered or liquid)
are necessary.
