Before you start panicking and calling me a liar for saying that there would not be a summer assignment, please bare with me and finish reading. I don’t think you will be disappointed. I am very excited about this coming year. We will work together to develop the various skills you will need to be successful on the AP exam. As we are doing that, we will be exploring 10 thousand years of history. This course will be very different from any course you have already taken. It is very analytical, and focuses on the themes in history. It also has a very global focus; while you may be familiar with the world wars, we will look at the wars from the point of view of Africa and China. Next year will be a challenging year. It is therefore, imperative that you recharge your mental and physical batteries this summer in whatever way works best for you. So why am I giving you this sheet that looks suspiciously like an assignment? Simple, I want to allow you to take advantage of some the fun things you might do this summer. If you go to the course information part of my web site, http://home.comcast.net/~mruland/WHAP/CourseInfo/info.htm you will find 3 different bonus opportunities at the bottom of the page. Since people frequently do the sightseeing thing during the summer, think about the Museum Review. If you happen to watch a good movie that deals with a historical topic, consider the Extra Credit Cinema assignment. The movie does not have to be playing in the theater, and several students can use the same picture. Some students even held movie parties with a group of friends. It never hurts to start out the year with some points in your bonus bucket. I would also encourage you to check out my webpage. There is a lot of good resources for you there, and you will be using it next year. It can be accessed at http://home.comcast.net/~mruland/. And now for the final part of your assignment. This is a 10 point assignment which will be your first grade in 1st quarter. Take a picture of yourself, and give it to me along with a brief note telling me about your summe NO LATER THAN (NLT) September 10th.
Enjoy!!!
