Free Public Screenings in Federal Way Thank you to the imagination and determination of Jack F., the ever-expansive spirit of Wallingford Neighbors For Peace and Justice, the wonders of modern technology, and our much beloved public library system for making these screenings possible... RETHINK AFGHANISTAN Sunday, November 22nd 3:30 P.M. Federal Way 320th Library 848 South 320th Street in Federal Way 98003 Rethink Afghanistan is a ground-breaking, full-length documentary focusing on the key issues surrounding this war. We will be showing the film in its entirety. Part One focuses on what military escalation will achieve in Afghanistan. Part Two looks at how the war could further destabilize a nuclear-armed Pakistan. Part Three focuses on the staggering costs of the war, which could easily exceed $1 trillion. Part Four examines the civilian casualties caused by recent U.S. airstrikes in Afghanistan. Part Five questions the assumption that war can liberate Afghan women. Part Six brings you three former high-ranking CIA agents explaining why there is no "victory" to be won in Afghanistan. After eight years of U.S. military engagement in Afghanistan, violence and instability still prevail. The military approach to Afghanistan is not succeeding; further application of American military force will not bring stability to the country or security to our own. With over 90 percent of U.S. funding in Afghanistan directed toward military purposes, non-military strategic options are not being pursued. The problems facing Afghan society are economic, social and political in nature, and require economic, social and political solutions. The U.S. can play a more constructive role in Afghanistan by engaging civil society than by waging war. To deprive it of oxygen. To shame it. To mock it. With our art, our music, our literature, our stubbornness, our joy, our brilliance, our sheer relentlessness– and our ability to tell our own stories. Stories that are different from the ones we’re being brainwashed to believe. The corporate revolution will collapse if we refuse to buy what they’re selling– their ideas, their version of history, their wars, their weapons, their notion of inevitability. Remember this: We be many and they be few. They need us more than we need them. Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing. -Arundhati Roy |
