Olympia Amateur Radio Society
Exam Page

We are holding Amateur Radio exams on the fourth Wednesday of each month January through October at 6PM. We will also be holding an exam on the first Wednesday following Thanksgiving at the same time. The current fee for taking the exam is $14.00.

We recommend taking practice exams, such as those at QRZ.COM before taking the exam. If one can take the practice exam and consistently score at least 90%, one should be ready to pass the actual exam.

All elements will be available

Where:

Emergency Operations Centre
2703 Pacific Avenue SE
Olympia, WA

What to bring:

Ballpoint Pen and Pencils
Calculator - We will clear memories of programmable calculators if they are to be used on the exam.
Social Security Number, Tax Identification Number, or FRN - Required by FCC
Legal Photo Identification - To protect your security, please do not leave copies with us.
Exam fee ($14.00) - Cash or check made out to ARRL/VEC
Originals and copies of any paperwork being claimed for credit - If applicable

Paperwork claimed for credit includes unexpired CSCEs, current license, and proof of General Class licensure prior to 1987.

The $14.00 test fee is good for taking all elements until one is failed. To retake after failing will require another test fee.

Social Security number, Tax ID number, or FRN:

From the FCC's webpage: “If you wish to conduct business with the FCC, you must first register through the FCC's COmmission REgistration System (CORES). Upon registration, you will be assigned a FCC Registration Number (FRN). This number will be used to uniquely identify you in all transactions with the FCC.” If you would like to obtain an FRN and use that on the exam paperwork rather than your Social Security Number, please feel free to do so at the FCC's registration webpage. If you are concerned this link may not be taking you to the real FCC webpage, you can also get there by going to their ULS page http://wireless.fcc.gov/uls and clicking on the Register link.

Note:

Effective February 23, 2007 there is no requirement of Morse Code for any Amateur Radio license. Existing Technician licensees will require no upgrade for full privileges. Applicants for General or Extra Licenses will need to provide valid CSCE forms for these elements, fill out NCVEC form 605, and pay the $14.00 fee for the paperwork upgrade.
