Antonio Giuliano
U.S. Army Sgt. First Class Giuliano, who performs Alfredo Germont
in Opera Bel Canto's La Traviata, has performed in opera,
concerts and recitals throughout the United States and Europe.
Mr. Giuliano received his musical education from the College of
Music at PJC in Pensacola, Fla., and the School of Music at Loyola
University in New Orleans.
He has appeared in opera, concerts and recitals throughout the
United States and Europe. As a member of the U.S. Army Chorus since
1988, SFC Giuliano has represented his country as a soloist to packed
houses and standing ovations worldwide.
During the 1992-93 season, when he had his Italian recital debut
in Como, Italy, he was invited to study with the great postwar Italian
tenor Franco Corelli at his home in Milano.
Mr. Giuliano has sung the leading operatic tenor roles such as
Rodolfo in La Bohème, Il Duca di Mantova in Rigoletto,
Alfredo in La Traviata, Manrico in Il Trovatore,
Alfred in Die Fledermaus and Nemorino in Donizetti’s
L’Elisir d’Amore. In New York he has sung Il
Barbiere di Siviglia with the National Lyric Opera, Edgardo in Lucia
di Lammermoor with the New York Repertory Opera, Rodolfo in
Verdi’s Luisa Miller with Opera Nova.
In 1995 Mr. Giuliano sang the lead tenor role of Giovanni in the
European operatic premiere of La Contessa Dei Vampiri by
American composer David Clenny and under the musical direction of
Maestro Stephen Simon, founder and conductor of the Washington Chamber
Symphony. He repeated the role in the Kennedy Center in Washington,
D.C., and at the Conservatorio De Musica in Puerto Rico.
On the concert stage, Mr. Giuliano has performed recitals with
piano and orchestra throughout the U.S. including Weill Recital
Hall at Carnegie Hall, a children’s benefit recital in Washington,
D.C., a gala concert with orchestra in Atlanta, and as featured
tenor soloist in an opera gala concert with the Paul Madore Chorale
& Orchestra in Salem, Mass. He has sung the tenor solos in productions
of the Verdi Requiem, the Mozart Requiem and Handel’s
Messiah under the direction of Maestro J. Reilly Lewis.
He has also sung the tenor solos in Mozart’s Mass in C
and Bach’s Magnificat.
In the Washington area he has appeared with the Fairfax Symphony,
the Arlington Symphony, the McLean Symphony and the McLean Orchestra
under the direction of Col. Arnald Gabriel. In the 2000-01 season,
he performed the Shylock, Op. 57, by Gabriel Fauré
for Orchestra and Tenor Solo with the National Gallery of Arts Orchestra
and Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana with the Alexandria
Symphony.
In 1999, CBS Evening News featured Sgt. 1st Class Giuliano
in a feature story about an opera singer in the Army. He has sung
private recitals for the former Secretary of State Madaleine Albright
and her guest of honor Archbishop Dimitrius of Greece. During 2000
he was the personal soloist to the Secretary of Defense William
Cohen and his wife Janet. On Valentine’s Day in 2001, Secretary
Cohen asked him to perform a private recital of serenades and arias
as a surprise gift to Mrs. Cohen for their fifth wedding anniversary.
On their request he performed numerous private recitals for distinguished
guests, including Ministers of Defense from Italy and Chile and
the King of Morocco Mohammed VI on his first U.S. visit.
In October of 2000, Sgt. 1st Class Antonio Giuliano received accolades
for his a cappella rendition of the National Anthem on
ABC's Monday Night Football, performed on the request of
the Washington Redskins for 85,000 spectators. He performed the
national anthem again for the Redskins game on January 6, 2002.
And for his latest conquest in his Military Dress Blues, per the
request of Secretary and Mrs. Cohen, Sgt. 1st Class Giuliano was
a featured soloist in a USO Salute to Bob Hope and Jack Valenti
at the Beverly Hills Hilton for their Hollywood guests, including
Steven Spielberg, Mickey Rooney, Kirk and Michael Douglas, Angie
Dickinson, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Connie Stevens.
Sgt. 1st Class Giuliano was featured as guest solo artist with
the U.S. Coast Guard Concert Band, commemorating Columbus Day in
2001in New London, Conn., singing famous Italian arias and Italian
love songs. Mr. Giuliano presented a live concert entitled “Ave
Maria: A Sacred Recital in Memory of September Eleventh” to
help raise funds for the Pentagon Relief Fund. (The recital is now

Mr. Giuliano began his 2001-02 season with a Tribute to Mario Lanza
Concert Tour. He began the tour in Florida at the Ashmore Fine Arts
Auditorium in Pensacola singing Italian arias and love songs and
returned to the Washington, D.C., area where the City of Fairfax
Band and Fairfax Symphony Orchestra accompanied him. He completed
his Washington-area Lanza concerts with the Alexandria Symphony
Orchestra in the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center
in Alexandria, Va.
In March 2002, Mr. Giuliano made his Romanian National Opera debut
in Bucharest, singing the leading tenor roles of Il Duca di Mantova
in Rigoletto and Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor. Before
leaving Romania, he sang a private recital at a dinner in his honor
hosted by U.S. Ambassador Michael Guest at the embassy in Bucharest.
Though he was on personal leave from military duty, he sang a highly
successful recital in his Army dress blue uniform Mr. Giuliano proudly
accepted the invitation and although he was away on personal leave
to highly represent the nation and the Army in the presence of the
Ambassador’s VIP guests.
After returning to the United States, Mr. Giuliano’s April
2002 schedule included the tenor solo in Verdi’s Requiem
at the National Cathedral in Washington DC with the National Cathedral
Choral Society and a Recital for the Dedication and Grand opening
of the Blair Arts Center at the Bullis School in Potomac, Md. In
the same month he sang in a U.S. Army Band-sponsored recital for
the student body and faculty of the Heights Boys Catholic School
in Potomac, Md., and a concert celebrating the Neapolitan love song
presented by the Band at Ft. Myer, Va. In May 2002 he was the featured
guest soloist with the Georgetown Chorale and Orchestra, singing
love songs and arias to benefit the Recording for the Blind and
Dyslexic of Washington, D.C. In November 2002, the U.S. Army Band
featured SFC Giuliano’s singing “O Sole Mio” at
Lincoln Center in New York City. In December he sang the tenor solos
in Händel’s Messiah and Bach’s Cantata,
BWV 140, “Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme,” with the
McLean Symphony. In 2003, he traveled to Houston, New Orleans and
Washington state for opera and concert engagements.
On the request of the U.S. Tennis Association, SFC Giuliano represented
the US Army by singing the Star Spangled Banner at Federation
Cup in Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Open Tennis Championships
in New York, June and August 2003.
Recently SFC Giuliano was featured singing the National Anthem
for the rededication of the “Rotunda for the Charters of Freedom”
at the National Archvies, where the Constitution, the Declaration
of Independence and the Bill of Rights are on now on permanent display
together for the first time. President George W. Bush gave the address.
In November 2003 SFC Giuliano will sing the tenor solo in Puccini’s
La Messa Di Gloria with the New Dominion Chorale and Orchestra
at Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center, Alexandria,
Va. The U.S. Army Band Recital Series will feature SFC Giuliano
in an evening of love duets and arias with Mary McCarthy, soprano,
on Tuesday November 25, 2003 at the Post Chapel, Ft. Myer, Va.
Mr. Giuliano takes private voice lessons with Dr. Donald G. Wiggins
in New York City.
In addition to his passion for opera, Mr. Giuliano’s interests
are community service for children, bodybuilding, fishing, and raising
and training German Shepherd dogs. SFC Giuliano resides in the Washington
area with his lovely wife Isabella and their dogs Nino and Gucci.
