I know
you’ve heard this story before, but it works like a charm, gives me
easy cable access, and most importantly, takes my tuner out of the signal
chain! - Greg M., Midlothian, VA
Nice
box he does. It really works well. Shoot, that's the only thing that's
been a permanent fixture on my board. - Mike P., Concord, CA

Makes
the cabling way simpler. I also use it as a mute switch. You all need
these on your board! - John W., Frisco, TX
I'm
very happy with the Junction. Simple functionality. Does what I need
it to do. Takes the tuner out of my signal path, allows for silent tuning/guitar
changes, and gives me a single, obvious spot for the guitar input. Thanks
for an excellent product. Really, I am happy with it. - Kenn P.,
Port Washington, NY
I had
to order a Pedalboard Junction - what a great idea! - Rodney C.,
Raleigh, NC

Frequently
Asked Questions (FAQs)
What
makes the Pedalboard Junction different from other A/B switchers?
I built the Pedalboard Junction because I couldn't find an A/B
box that could do everything I wanted it to do. The Pedalboard
Junction offers these benefits:
- Convenience
- Perhaps your pedalboard is a lot like mine - I have a big board
with everything attached securely (the big one in the picture above).
And, if you're like me, when playing out you want to be able to pop
it open, plug in a guitar and an amp, and get to playing! The Pedalboard
Junction includes both an instrument input and an amplifier
output, so you can plug your cables into one place on your pedalboard
easily and avoid messy, complicated cable snaking through your pedals.
- Simplicity
- The Pedalboard Junction uses only one red
LED, which indicates the status of the left side (as you face the
pedals) outputs. You want to know when the tuner send is active and
the sound is muted, so with a stomp switch you light the LED for this
purpose. Once you're in tune and playing, the LED goes off. With all
the pedals I use, I don't need to have an extra LED shining up at
me all the time. The Pedalboard Junction's LED lights up only when
you need to tune (Red light - stop and
tune!) and you can turn it off when you're finished
tuning.
- Better Sound
- Inline tuners can affect your tone in a nasty way. With the Pedalboard
Junction, you can bypass your tuner when you don't need it, and get
that little tone-sucking gremlin out of your signal chain!
- Quality
- Pedal tuners are quite popular these days, and everybody likes the
idea of silent tuning so your audience doesn't have to listen to it!
But let's be honest, some of the mass-produced pedal tuners
on the market are just not the best build quality, with breakable
plastic jacks and flimsy switches. The Pedalboard Junction is hand
assembled, and features a durable metal enclosure, all metal jacks
and a dependable stomp switch. By adding a Pedalboard Junction to
your pedalboard, you can keep the existing tuner that you're already
happy with, and still add the practical functionality of silent tuning.
How big is
the PJ Express! or Pedalboard Junction?
It's built into a Hammond 1590N1 box (or similar). The dimensions are
roughly 4.8" by 2.6" by 1.6".
Are the PJ
Express! and the Pedalboard Junction noisy?
The Pedalboard Junction is fully grounded for the quietest operation
possible. Some hum is noticeable if you leave noisy pedals on, such
as fuzz boxes or distortion pedals, while using the silent tuning function.
Do I have
to use one of the outputs for a tuner?
No. You can use the switching function like any A/B switch box.
What kind
of power supply do I need for the PJ Express! or
Pedalboard Junction?
Any regulated 9 volt DC power supply with a 2.1mm barrel connector,
center negative, will be perfect for the Pedalboard Junction. This includes
big boxes like the Pedal Power, daisy chain units like the 1 Spot, or
any Boss PSA style wall-wart. Power is required only to light the LED,
the A/B switching function works without power.
Can I use
a 9 volt battery to power the LED?
The current production model uses an external adapter only (not included)
for powering the LED. I designed the Pedalboard Junction to work best
on an existing pedalboard that has its own onboard power source. I can
install a 9 volt battery clip if preferred, e-mail
me to discuss options.
Why are there
no graphics on the PJ Express! or the Pedalboard Junction?
For a couple of reasons, particularly, time and money - if I use screened
graphics, it will take me more time and it will cost you
more money! Plus, I wanted to keep its appearance simple and functional.
Each Pedalboard Junction ships with an instruction sheet which explains
all the connections. Once you put it on your board, all your connections
are simplified.
Do the PJ
Express! and Pedalboard Junction come in any other colors?
The current production model uses a black box. I think it looks good
on a pedalboard without distracting from other pedals. I can build one
in a different color box if preferred, e-mail
me to discuss options.
Can I get
different color LEDs?
The current production models use a red LED to indicate the tuner mute
function. Red light - stop and tune!
I install resistors to keep the LEDs from being too bright, I figure
the last thing I need is another LED to blind me (and I think we all
know how badly bright LEDs are abused these days!). I can install different
color LEDs if preferred, e-mail
me to discuss options.
Weren't there
other models before - the PJ Junior, Union Station and the Bandora Box?
Yes, but now the PJ Junior, Union
Station and the Bandora Box
are only available by special order. Truth is, they're just not as popular
as the original Pedalboard Junction or the PJ Express! these days. I'll
build one if you really want one, however, I don't keep PJ Junior enclosures
in stock anymore, so it may take a week or two to receive it.
