Unfair and Unbalanced
In my last post, I ranted about several topics, including the abuse of some
prisoners held at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq by some American soldiers.
While I don't regret anything I wrote in that post, I have to add some words
to lend a bit of perspective to the whole situation.
All the News That's Fit to Print?
The tragic news of the day is that American civilian businessman Nick Berg
was brutally murdered by terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. Mr. Berg was
horribly beheaded, and the whole gruesome scene was videotaped by
the thugs responsible. This is, once again, a graphic example of the depravity
of the Islamists. How can anyone doubt that these "people" would like nothing
more than to kill every American? Anyone thinking otherwise is just hiding his
head in the sand.
Do you remember al-Zarqawi? He's the guy that
wrote the letter that was
intercepted by the U.S. military outlining plans to stop the formation of a
democratic government in Iraq:
In February, the U.S.-led coalition in
Iraq made public an intercepted letter it said was written by al-Zarqawi to
al-Qaida leaders, detailing a strategy of spectacular attacks to derail the
planned June 30 handover of power to the Iraqis. U.S. officials say al-Zarqawi
may have been involved in some of the series of suicide bombings this year
in Iraq.
The
letter makes clear that al-Zarqawi intends to do whatever he can
to destabilize Iraq, especially targeting Americans for death and drawing the
Shiites into a civil war against the Sunnis.
4. Plan of action: after much inquiry and discussion, we have narrowed our enemy to four
groups:
A. Americans as you know, these are the biggest cowards that god has created
and the easiest target. And we ask god to allow us to kill, and detain them,
so that we can exchange them with our arrested shaykhs and brothers.
B. Kurds these are a pain and a thorn, and it is not time yet to deal with
them. They are last on our list, even though we are trying to get to some of
their leaders. God willing.
C. The Iraqi troops, police, and agents these are the eyes, ears, and hand
of the occupier. With god's permission, we are determined to target them
with force in the near future, before their power strengthens.
D. The Shi'a in our opinion, these are the key to change. Targeting and
striking their religious, political, and military symbols, will make them
show their rage against the Sunnis and bear their inner vengeance. If we
succeed in dragging them into a sectarian war, this will awaken the sleepy
Sunnis who are fearful of destruction and death at the hands of these
Sabeans, i.e., the Shi'a. Despite their weakness, the Sunnis are
strong-willed and honest and different from the coward and deceitful Shi'a,
who only attack the weak. Most of the Sunnis are aware of the danger of
these people and they fear them. If it were not for those disappointing
shaykhs, Sufis, and Muslim brothers, Sunnis would have a different attitude.
Since February, when the letter came to light, the level of violence in Iraq
has escalated dramatically, with uprisings amongst Sunnis in Fallujah and
Shiites (al Sadr and his Mahdi milita) in Najaf and other cities. It wouldn't
surprise me at all if both of these uprisings were tied to al-Zarqawi and his
plans to destabilize Iraq.
The fact that al-Zarqawi personally murdered Nick Berg in cold blood is
obviously
important. It's clearly part of al-Zarqawi's campaign of terror, in hopes
of forcing a U.S. withdrawal from Iraq, or at the very least, delaying the
handover of authority to a democratic Iraqi government. Most of all, though, for
any honest person it demonstrates, with absolute clarity, the difference between
the U.S., our system of government and our people, and the Islamic terrorists
and the religion they purport to follow. It's unfortunate, but typical, that the
liberal U.S. mainstream media had no compunction about publishing pictures of
the abuse of Iraqi prisoners, but has downplayed the brutal murder of Nick Berg
and has refused to show pictures or video of it.
Is that fair? Is that balanced?
Although I understand that the media doesn't want to horrify or offend, the
fact is that Nick Berg's murder was horrifying and offensive, in the extreme,
and we should be angry about it. We ought to be angry, as well, at the
media's attempt to manipulate our emotions - to direct our anger toward the
President and his administration, rather than toward those truly deserving of our
anger - the Islamic terrorists and their supporters.
Abu Ghraib Prison Blues
Those responsible for the prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib will be brought to
justice. They will receive a fair trial, and if determined to be guilty,
punished according to the severity of their crimes. Our system of justice
requires it; the American people demand it, and justice will be served.
What justice did Nick Berg get from Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and his comrades?
None.
He was horrifically murdered at the hands of the worst of humanity. The
murderers were so shameless that they videotaped the whole disgusting, brutal
act, and held Berg's decapitated head up for the camera while they gloated. Yet
they were so cowardly that they wore masks and scarves over their heads and
faces so they couldn't easily be recognized.
With Liberty and Justice For All
Nick Berg's murder demands justice, just like:
While we demand justice for the few Iraqi prisoners abused by a few American soldiers, and
punishment for those guilty of crimes, we must also remember the many thousands
of victims of Islamist terror. Should we not demand justice for them, as well?
Islamic terrorists have murdered and maimed thousands of people to further
their twisted vision of religion and prevent the spread of freedom throughout
the world. In the final accounting, when they stand
before the throne of God, they will answer for their crimes:
For we will all stand before God's judgment seat. It is written:
" 'As surely as I live,' says the Lord,
'every knee will bow before me;
every tongue will confess to God.' "
So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.
Romans 14:10-12
Until that day, however, let us demand human justice for all.
Any American soldiers guilty of abuse of Iraqi prisoners ought to
receive fair punishment, and that will surely happen.
Just as surely, every one of the terrorists responsible for so many
cowardly murders throughout the world must be brought to justice. If they
continue to terrorize innocent people, attack civilians, and commit the most
cowardly and heinous crimes, then their appointment to stand before God's
judgment seat must be hastened by our military.
When the media truly understands that, then they can claim to be fair and
balanced.
Never forget. Liberty and justice for all.
