More Waffles Than a House of Pancakes
Given my somewhat cynical nature, I love good satire, and "The Ultimate John Kerry Ad" by
Mark Simone is brilliant. It's a send-up of a typical political radio ad, and I
think you'll love it..
Note: The link doesn't play the ad for
me all the time - I'm not sure why, but it might be that the site has gotten so
many hits that the server is overwhelmed.
Although it is satire, it's a completely serious and devastating expose' of
John Kerry's pandering and flip-flopping. He clearly will say anything to
win votes and to avoid taking a stand. It's devastating, because the ad consists
almost entirely of recordings of John Kerry's speeches and interviews,
juxtaposed in such a way that in one clip, he takes one position on an issue,
and then in the following clip, takes the exact opposite position! John
Kerry contradicts himself over and over again in his own words - no vast
right wing conspiracy necessary! You'll hardly believe it - unless you've been
paying attention to what Kerry has been saying. Then you won't be surprised at
all.
Throughout the ad, the announcer "plugs" John Kerry: "No matter what side
you're on, John Kerry is on your side."
And, "The only candidate with the courage to take every position on every
issue."
Toward the end of the ad, the announcer intones, in a voice completely devoid
of irony, "John Kerry. More positions than any other candidate, and the courage
to stand by all of them." Bwah ha hah ha ha! Snork! Ha hah ha ha!
What great lines, and like most great satire, it has more than a grain of
truth. I laughed out loud and goggled at Kerry's amazing gall. He must really
think we're all stupid. The unfortunate truth, though, is that it is John
Kerry's intellect that is suspect. He clearly cannot hold any single conviction
for any length of time at all. It seems almost like some kind of mental
condition. In the first presidential debate, he
switched positions on the Iraq war within three sentences!
Go listen to the ad. You'll be amused and amazed.
(Yes, I shamelessly stole the title of this post from
JibJab's incredible "This Land" song - more
great satire. I love it - especially when it skewers a phony like John "Nuance"
Kerry.)
Thanks to Andrew Quinn, the Teenage Pundit,
posting on Dean's World for the
pointer.
