Working Man's Woes

Probably no one noticed that I haven't posted in a while, but here's a quick update, anyway.

I'm still around, but I've been so busy at work that I haven't had time to post anything. I've been singing this same sorry refrain for a while now, I know, and it's getting really old, especially for me. Pray that the project that I'm working on will get under control soon. I don't know how much longer I can continue to put so much time and effort into it. It's been really draining, and it's been very hard to motivate myself to sit down and write here at home, when I spend most all day in front of my computer at work.

I don't want to get dooced, so I won't say more about my job than that, except that it really hasn't been fun lately. I'd appreciate whatever thoughts and prayers you can spare for me. Sorry for the whining; I know there are lots of folks that would love to have my "troubles." I just felt the need to vent a bit, so I hope you'll forgive my self-pity.

While I'm on the subject of prayer, let's keep the families of our servicemen and women in Iraq in our prayers. There were more killed today than on any other single day since the war started, most in the terrible helicopter crash. It's a sad day for all of us, but most of all for the families and friends of those killed. They need all the support we can give them.

Likewise, pray for those killed and injured in the awful train derailment in California. What a tragic event. Apparently, it was caused by a suicidal man, with a history of drug problems, who parked his SUV on the train tracks, then got out and left his car there. When an oncoming passenger train collided with the SUV, the train derailed, hit another passenger train, and forced that one to derail as well. Besides at least 11 people killed, tens of dozens were injured, many very seriously.

How does a person get into such a mental state that he or she would do such a thing? Evil begetting evil, until innocent people die needlessly. It appears to be the natural human condition, but "thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing." [2 Cor 2:14,15 NIV]

The cycle of evil can be broken, if your life is turned over to Jesus, our Savior: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." [1 John 1:9 NIV]

If only the driver of that SUV had sought help, and sought comfort and healing in God's hands, eleven people would be alive tonight. My brothers and sisters in Christ, the stakes are so high, and "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few." Let's pray that our Lord will bring us opportunities to lead others to Him.
