Rules for adoption:
Cats: You must agree to NOT declaw and cats MUST be kept indoors. Yes, cats can be escape artists. I have 2 that get outside every chance they can, but it is an owner's responsibility to keep their cat healthy and safe and that means keeping them indoors. An outside enclosure would be acceptable as long as it is secure and you are not planning to keep the cat in the enclosure permanently. For more information about declawing, see this page.
Dogs: You must agree to NOT tie a dog outside all day, every day. Dogs are social animals and need love and attention. Tying them outside all of their life is cruel an irresponsible. For more information on why you should not keep dogs outside, see unchainyourdog.org or dogsdeservebetter.com.
If you adopt an animal from me and can no longer keep him/her for any reason, they must be returned to me and I will find them a new home. Do not dump them, post them on Craigslist or anywhere else, or take them to a shelter where they may be put to sleep.
You must agree to a home visit and provide 2 personal references and 1 veterinary reference. If you rent, I will need to speak with your landlord to make sure that you can have the animal that you are interested in adopting. I will also do 2 follow up calls and one more home visit after the adoption to make sure you and the animal are adjusting well to each other and to answer any questions you might have.
NOTE: I will always be available for any questions or concerns for the rest of the animals life. Never hesitate to call me with health or behavioral questions.  I would love an occasional call just to update me on how your new pet is doing.

Adoption Procedures

1. Written Application: Please me and include the name of the animal you are interested in adopting, your name, address, and phone number. I will first contact you by phone to discuss the animal's needs and to see if you are willing to meet those needs.  If you are still interested in the said animal we will then proceed with the adoption process.

2. Reference Checks: There will be an area for you to provide 1 veterinary and 2 personal references on the adoption application.   If you do not have a veterinary reference, please include 1 more personal reference.

3. Home Visit: I will visit your home to discuss the care of the animal you are interested in adopting. Together we will inspect your home and yard for any potential hazards and discuss how to correct them.

4. Approval: After the above steps have been completed, I will review all information and make a decision on the adoption.

5. Contract: You will be required to sign an adoption contract as a last step. Once the contract has been signed I will deliver or you may pick up your new pet.

6. I will follow up with another home visit and 2 phone calls to make sure you and your new pet are adjusting to each other and to answer any questions you may have.
