Clara
Age: Approx. 1 year old. Clara was trapped from my feral colony, but was not actually part of the colony. She showed up one day, begging for food and following Will around. She was very frightened and very vocal. She was not feral, but a very scared dumped or lost pet. She was trapped on May 6, 2007. I posted her as found, but no one ever came for her. She was pregnant and clearly underweight with an injured tail. I took her to the vet to be spayed and vaccinated. They also looked at her tail and said to leave it alone and see if it would heal on its own. Unfortunately it did not and about 3 inches of her tail fell off . She is all healed up and there should not be any further complications from that injury. Clara tested positive for FIV, but she is currently in perfect health. Clara is a complete goofball.
She is very playful and incredibly sweet. She took some
time to settle into our home and now she's a happy, fun, and
entertaining cat to have around. She
loves
toys of all shapes and sizes. She can play for hours and she
really enjoys chasing feather toys. Clara is excellent about using her
scratching post and spends a lot of time scratching on it. She'll
run at it from across the room and jump on it and scratch maniacally around it in circles. She's so funny. She
seeks
out attention constantly and she's a flopper. As you
scratch
down her back she will flop down and roll around purring loudly.
She LOVES being
petted and is a lap cat.
She wants to be close all of the time. Clara can be placed
with another cat close to her age as long
as
introductions are done slowly and carefully. She enjoys the
company of other cats and would love to have a playmate, but she does
stand up for herself if she is bossed around by another cat.
I
would prefer if she lives with another
FIV+ kitty, but it's not mandatory. She lives here with eleven
FIV negative cats with no problems. FIV is mainly spread
through
deep, penetrating, bite wounds and is rarely spread by casual contact
such as sharing dishes or a litter box. Clara seems curious
about
dogs as long as they are mellow and
don't get in her face.
Clara is best suited for an adult only home with someone that has cat experience. She gets very startled if you try to pick her up and sometimes gets defensive if you continue to try to pick her up. I am working with her on this daily and sometimes I can pick her up for a minute and she'll purr and rub into my hands. Other times she freaks out and struggles to get away. If she must be picked up, a scruff and swoop seems to work best for now. Clara needs to time to adjust in a new home, just like she needed time to adjust here. Once she settles into her new home, she will provide you with endless laughter and pure love. Clara is spayed, fully vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. She did test negative for FeLV. UPDATE: 6/7/08: Clara went in for her yearly exam on 5/30/08. The vet said she was in excellent health and recommended that we re-test her for FIV using the Western Blot test which is a more accurate test. She came back NEGATIVE!!! Yeah!!! Clare Bear is FIVless. It was great news. So if you were intrested in Clara, but her FIV status concerned you, no more excuses! Send me an e-mail. You won't regret it. She's a wonderful little girl.
