The Great Kitten Caper

In August of 2004 my neighbor told me that she saw a sign at Foodland stating that kittens needed homes or they would die. Of course I had to find out what was going on. I called the number on the sign and offered my assistance. I went to the apartment the cats were in and it was filthy and junk filled. The cats and kittens were flea infested and had internal parasites. The lady that had the cats and kittens was a nice lady with a good heart, but was in a bad situation with no money. Her 2 adult females got out of her apartment and got pregnant. One cat had 7 kittens, the other had 5. She gave one of the kittens away and there were 11 kittens to find homes for.  The lady was in the process of moving in with her boyfriend so the kittens were often left alone with their mothers. The kittens were too young to be away from their mothers and the lady did not want to give up the mother cats so I had to leave the kittens with her until they were weaned.

I needed help so I contacted several rescues and was turned down by all of them, except one. A wonderful lady at Foster Cat offered to take some of the kittens. To make a long story short, we finally got all of the kittens in with Foster Cat and we managed to get the lady to agree to have her 2 adult cats spayed using the Animal Birth Control program. We were just in time, because right after the spays, the lady up and moved and was never heard from again. I was lucky enough to have the younger litter in my home for a few days and we managed to get some really cute pictures as you can see.

All of the kittens have been adopted into wonderful homes and I have been in touch with an older gentleman that adopted one of the kittens. He and his wife named her Missy and she has developed into a big and beautiful cat. I am so thankful that Foster Cat stepped in and helped me when no one else would.

Did I mention that there was a ferret involved with this crazy rescue? See Sonny D's page.
