These are just some notes for myself
on questions to ask when reviewing films.
Reviewing any movie
- Is product-placement conspicuous and the promotion of products implausing or distracting (e.g. the attempt
by the protagonist in the movie Juno to make a certain fake-juice drink seem cool)?
Reviewing the action movie
- If the special effects are meant to depict something like real life (e.g. Die Hard, but not Spiderman)
are those effects plausible? For example:
- Do cars blow up improbably?
- Do cars launch into the air improbably?
- Do buildings collapse despite minor damage?
- Are special effects done entirely with fake-seeming computer graphics (e.g. Speed Racer) or is there some
attempt at realism (e.g. the machinery underlying Tony Stark's first prototype suit in Iron Man)?
