My
earliest memories are of experiences with animals and the natural
world. My ceramic work reflects this lifelong passion and I try
to give my sculptures life through their gestures and expression.
Claywork
destined for the pitfire, gets burnished with polished stones
until the clay surface is mirror-smooth. Once a firing is finished,
I sometimes embellish the work with beads, feathers, twigs and
other natural materials.
My
Raku work is fired in a special kiln until the glaze becomes molten,
then moved to a bed of pine needles or other combustibles and tightly
covered. Afterwords, the piece is immersed in water which completes
the process. The end result often has a crackled or coppery lustre
with a very organic look.
The
most important thing to me is my strong emotional response to the
end result
