Soft Pastels

Laura Mankikar is an East Bay artist having grown up in the hills of Berkeley, overlooking the bay and surrounded by the splendors of Tilden Park. She was inspired early as an artist by her mother. She has been working in Soft Pastel for several years, studying at UC Extension, Vista College and with well known local teachers.

She has taught beginning soft pastel through Lafayette Studios and been published in the Vista Literary magazine. She also works in Ceramics, as well as acrylic painting.

She translates California landscapes into a dialogue about texture, volume, light, and color.
“I love to feel the textures of the world. We are losing the rich environment we used to experience by sitting in soft chairs, minimizing the natural world from our lives and living in neutral boxes. Our sensory world gives us our vitality
